FANTASTIC!,

No listener to this CD will be disappointed. Te Kanawa's velvety, rich voice takes on a whole new sound when singing Gershwin....her transition from opera to broadway is incredible, and her clear diction, the way she lets her emotion come through her voice as well as her amazing tone...makes her quite unlike any other opera (aka broadway) singer of her time. While her operatic recordings are absolutley brilliant, this incredible artist's broadway recordings are all spot on as well. A definite 5 star.

Not quite what I expected,

from the talented arranger Nelson Riddle. I do like this album but I must admit that this is the only time that
I wasn't really blown away by Riddle's music. And as much as I admire Miss Kanawa's talents as a soprano I don't think she really quite pulled it off. But still, compared to the music of today this is still like a breath of fresh air and I am glad I got this album as it fills an important gap in my collection of Mr. Riddle's music. His albums with Linda Ronstadt are much more satisfying but that shouldn't put anyone off from getting this album. |
