4.0 out of 5 stars Not a story book. It's a simple book of opposites.
I ordered this book based on Amazon's description that is is a "complete retelling of Disney presentation of a Pixar film latest computer-animated film, Cars." It is definitely NOT that. Instead, it's a simple book of opposites, using pictures from the movie. Here are some examples from the book: "Dirty car. Clean car. Nice car. Mean car. Drive fast, fast, fast...

1.0 out of 5 stars Too small and not valuable
We bought a similar book "Step into reading" for Thomas and Trains in Costco. It had 6 full stories with each story around 20 pages at least with lots of text to read through. We thought this book is similar to that. But all we found was that it is just 15 to 20 page book with no stories but just opposite words, no more than 3 words per page. Very little to read for my...

Clean car. Nice car. Mean car. Drive fast, fast, fast. Drive nice and slow." If you are looking for a book of opposites for a child who loves the movie 'Cars', then this book is for you. If you are looking for a book that tells the story, this isn't the one you want to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 2 1/2 year old's favorite book, July 25, 2007
This review is from: Old, New, Red, Blue! (Step into Reading) (Cars movie tie in) (Paperback)
We don't let him watch TV/movies, and I've never seen "Cars" either - but we love this book just the same. It's has simple rhymes which are fun for him and easy to memorize for me. We even recite the words in the car without the book around. The book has held up reasonably well given all the use it gets and that it's a paperback.

My son picks out books for me to read before he goes to sleep, he always picks this as one of them.

He knows each of the car names and can "read" what each page says. I put "read" in quotes because he has each sentence memorized. Regardless, I'm impressed! So if I point at the words "Old Car" he'll say it, but when I point to the car, he'll say "Mater"

The pictures are renderings vs illustrations, so they'll look just like the characters in the movie.

My daughter loves it and actually picks it up on her own and reads it. She's 5 so it's a great book to encourage kids to start reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars My twin boys favorite, November 15, 2010
This review is from: Old, New, Red, Blue! (Step into Reading) (Cars movie tie in) (Paperback)
My 2 1/2 year olds LOVE this book. We had it before they ever saw the movie and they were really intrigued by the cars with faces and "talking." The especially love the rhyming and now can "read" the book back to me.

So many first reading books have way too many words, this book has just 1-2 words on each page. Excellent choice for children just beginning to read by themselves.

My 1.5 yr old will sit and listen through the entire book. Most other books we can only point to the pictures as he won't sit and listen to the story.
