4.0 out of 5 stars Solid adventure
For the price this is hard to pass up. It is complete.

The overall story has an earth friendly (tree hugger) theme to it that works if you ask me. (Melting Polar Ice caps and all.)

The 3d and 2d is stunning for a production that is 10 years old, and still very good by todays standards. This was a first time for an anime created completely...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Show. Horrible DVD Format
Blue Submarine No. 6 is a good mini series with a fascinating style of animation. The only qualm i have with the product is the A and B side use of the discs. i new that the product had three discs but only one episode is on each side of the discs. This is an unnecessary feature because it's a mini series and doesn't need to have an A and a B side for four episodes. This...

For the price this is hard to pass up. It is complete.

The overall story has an earth friendly (tree hugger) theme to it that works if you ask me. (Melting Polar Ice caps and all.)

The 3d and 2d is stunning for a production that is 10 years old, and still very good by todays standards. This was a first time for an anime created completely digitally. IE: All done on computers both the 3d and the flat 2d work.

That being said this could have been horrible. With the team being caught up in "new technology" it could have easily set the production staff to focus on all the wrong things.

But in fact it is very good. When I watch this takes me back a few years. The style brings back feelings sparked by other (much older) anime. Akira, Bubble Gum, Megazone 23, and MD Geist all come to mind when I watch this. That isn't to say this compares to them... just is reminiscent of that class of "classic anime" with a much newer feel.

Overall the price is so cheap and the package has enough extras that this is REALLY hard to pass up.

I bought it and would buy it again if I lost my copy.

This is an unnecessary feature because it's a mini series and doesn't need to have an A and a B side for four episodes. This neglects any option for disc art too!
There is no where on the information page of the DVD collection that describes this feature/fault.

To be honest. i would not have bought this product knowing i would have to get up and either flip the disc or change the disc after each and every episode. You also have to set the language and subtitles. You have to sit through the animation and production company logos that you cannot skip through on each episode.

3.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, but stock, July 11, 2007
This review is from: Blue Submarine, No. 6: Anime Legends Complete Collection (DVD)
When i was but a wee one i saw BS6 when it aired for the first time in America on cartoon network (rock on). Then it never aired again... ever. When i saw it on Amazon i had no choice but to get it. I wasn't disappointed, but the dialog leaves something to be desired, and the entire storyline seems rushed. The visuals on the other hand are astounding, some of the best i have ever seen. Its more of a rental than a classic, but its pretty cheap.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MASTERPIECE, December 9, 2010
This review is from: Blue Submarine, No. 6: Anime Legends Complete Collection (DVD)
For real, this is a masterpiece of animes.
One of the best histories ever. One of the best anime traces.
I recommend!

PS: make a favor to yourself and NEVER watch animes in your language. Always watch Japanese with subtitles!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great anime!, June 3, 2011

I must start by saying that I was looking for this series for a long time, since I only caught one or two episodes when it was broadcasted, and considered it cool! So I didn't hesitate to get this copy.

Boy! It is a great series. I loved every minute of it. First I saw it in english, later in japanese with english subtitles. Trust me, it's better in the original language! The voice-overs sound really cool, very emotional.

The 3D sections were impressive (remember this was in made last century...), and in general the atmosphere was outstanding. Kudos to the japanese creators for that.

I sincerely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Overlook Like Me, November 23, 2010

I have heard about Blue Submarine No.6 for years but always found newer anime and I didn't end up picking this up til just the other day. Man am I glad I finally picked it up. It's not perfect so don't go in thinking it's going to change your life but if you want a good show to pass a couple of hours check it out. It's cheap and somuch better than most of the anime coming out today.

Just one thing about content. It does have topless sea ladies so you decide if it's kid friendly. I didn't find it offensive myself but nothing else I read said anything about that and I was surprised. Just decide for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blue Sub No.6 A Legend, November 1, 2010

One of the best anime series. Wish it was longer but for a 4 episode OVA collection it is worth the money. It successfully combines both 2d and 3d animation sequences. I saw this on cartoon network(The old un-sucking one that had Toonami) when I was pretty young and I didn't understand the story much because it has to do with genetic experiments and polar ice caps melting flooding the earth and I also thought I missed some of the episodes since it was so short. Now that I've seen it again when I'm older I feel the story is quite deep and told well throughout the few episodes, I only wish the ending wasn't so ambiguous. The packaging is good but my only peeve is that the discs are double sided containing one episode on each side. However the extras disc contains the trailers from Toonami which bring back so many memories, also there is no censoring of blood/gore and you have the chance to watch in both english/japanese which I recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING! SIMPLY AMAZING!, June 17, 2010
This review is from: Blue Submarine, No. 6: Anime Legends Complete Collection (DVD)
Blue Submarine No.6 is Gonzo Studios first work and what a debut it is! Being a show from 1998-2000 it has FANTASIC 2D animation. During that time the 3D CG was considered to be great as well but for today's standards, it looks pretty terrible. Story is pretty weak and there isn't much character development outside the main character but overall it still manages to be entertaining and that's what matters.

I was glad when I found this on Amazon. I remember when stores used to try and sell each episode on a single DVD for about $20 each. I love the show, but not enough to spend $60 for 6 episodes. :P
Very glad they finally came around and became more reasonable with the boxset price.
