2.0 out of 5 stars Less Of what I Though It Would Be!...
Knowing the reputation of Steve Tavaglione as a Musician, with sidemen like Jimmy Johnson (Bass); Vinnie Colaiuta (Drums); Allan Holdsworth, Michael Landau (Guitars); John Beastley (Acoustic Piano), David Garfield (Keyboards); Lenny Castro (Percussion), Walt Fowler (Trumpet & Flugehorn),and Steve Tavaglione (EWI, Alto & Soprano Sax), it's obvious to think that this disc...

Knowing the reputation of Steve Tavaglione as a Musician, with sidemen like Jimmy Johnson (Bass); Vinnie Colaiuta (Drums); Allan Holdsworth, Michael Landau (Guitars); John Beastley (Acoustic Piano), David Garfield (Keyboards); Lenny Castro (Percussion), Walt Fowler (Trumpet & Flugehorn),and Steve Tavaglione (EWI, Alto & Soprano Sax), it's obvious to think that this disc would probably be a jazz recording or something like that... but it isn't.

This 1997 recording presents a collage of modern Jazz with New Edge, acoustic traditional jazz and Rock, mixed with synthesized rhythms and patches, light techno musical passages (a la Michael Jackson!) and Rock and Fusion solos with sax and guitar that achives some freshness and that's a fact but, as a whole, almost out of the jazz context; losing musical uniformity. Only the top tracks are: "Keyna Dig It", "Catalina", "Rapture" and "Tsunami".

Maybe the reason behind this fact is that almost all the tracks are David Garfield's (and old friend of Toto's drummer Jeff Porcaro) compositions and furthermore, he play in all tracks almost making him the "One man's Band" So it's very probably that all this musical patches and other cheesy electronic effects that suddenly popped up in the songs came from the same place... It would be better that the whole thing had functioned as a total creative band with the extra help of another keyboardist to support the musical arrangement task. isolated efforts of recognized musicians like Allan Holdsworth or Vinnie Colaiuta are not enought to make a decent recording or a masterpice. But in the end you decide... So Good Luck!
