3.0 out of 5 stars "Blue Tears by Blue Tears" 3 out of 5 stars, sounds like a lost Bon Jovi album
I could not get over how much the singer sounds like Jon Bon Jovi in spots, not the whole album but its definitely there. To me this sounds like a cross between a the first three Bon Jovi albums and Def Leppard on a couple of their albums. The chorus parts on some of the tracks have a big time Adrenalize/Hysteria sound. A lot of the songs are strong and there a parts...

It is amazing to me how sometimes a record label can drop the ball and not promote certain bands that have truly great potential. Blue Tears was defenitely one of those bands. I understand that the music scene changed in the early nineties for the grunge thing but I still believe the mid and late 80's had the best rock music. So many bands never had the chance to really shine due to the change in the music industry. If this album had been released when Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Poison, RATT etc. were at their prime they would have become a household name. Yeah, I think they were that good! Every time I let somebody here this album they are surprised that they didn't make it big. They finally released 2 follow up albums that were shelved and a new one is in the works. If you like the sound of the late 80's rock and want to hear something that should have been check this out!!!!! Also check out the their very cool website at http://www.bluetearsmusic.com/

4.0 out of 5 stars Never quite made it, but they deserved to, July 5, 2006
This review is from: Blue Tears (Audio CD)
Blue Tears was another in a long list of hard rock/hair metal bands that got lost in the shuffle during the late 80's and early 90's. For some reason, MCA Records seemed to sign this kind of band left and right, release one album, fail to promote it, and then cut them loose. A lot of bands fell by the wayside as a result. Some were really good and some were merely average. Blue Tears definitely falls into the first category.

The sound on the band's 1990 self-titled debut was equal parts Bon Jovi and Night Ranger. They may not have been the most original band on the block, playing the kind of slick melodic AOR that was so popular at the time, but Blue Tears played it very well. Each song on the album is well written, though they don't stray very far from the standard AOR love songs. Perhaps the band was too clean for their own good. Bands like Poison and Warrant were milking the whole "bad boys with a soft side" approach to great success. Blue Tears weren't bad boys with a soft side. They came across as nice guys making safe music. Then again, Journey and Bad English were never seen as bad boys, and they did just fine. This is a band that really should have been a big hit at the time, but for whatever reason went largely unnoticed. The good news is that the band resurfaced earlier this year with a new album - their first in over 15 years!

Overall, Blue Tears is a great album from start to finish. Good vocals, good melodies, good songs. It's a can't-miss pick for anyone who enjoys the classic AOR/melodic rock sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars a must have, March 3, 2005
This review is from: Blue Tears (Audio CD)
Well, thanks to internet these guys are more well known nowdays to several people such as myself.I was surprised hearing to the very good sound of this album almost clear and crystal. The tracks include very good catchy melodies such as Bon Jovi in the years of New Jersey album.I can say that the vocals in many tracks sound like the voice of Bon Jovi specially in the slow parts which made me love this album more and more!!Strong melodies and lots of many-voices choruces are the characteristics of Blue tears.Check out the self titled song and "take this heart" whitch could be the radio hit such as runaway in the 80's.Hard rock fans and aor fans will love this album if you're keen on bands like BJ,airrace, aircraft, boulevard, giuffria, xyz.Imagine these guys opening for BJ tours.Dream come true!
Look for it you'll love this!

I did a search for Blue Tears just for fun, because my father, Bryan Hall, was the guitarist in that band years ago. I really didn't expect anything to show up, since they seem to be somewhat of a scratch on the wall of Rock N Roll (I blame MCA). I know I'm a band members daughter, but I truly believe that this is a really great album for that particular time and genre. I'm only 16, but I know my music history. I was raised to know it. If it helps, I don't even particularly like or listen to this music. I'll admit, I don't believe I've ever heard the unreleased tracks or demos. I play in rock bands, and I do like some older music, but the "glam rock" thing was never my thing. I guess I'm not old enough to really understand that "glam rock" time period.
Right now, Mike Spears and my dad, Bryan Hall, are making another album under a new name, Mayday Ground. The last EP they made was under the name Sunny & 72. I think they sold it at shows and made copies for friends and family, but they aren't signed, so they can't exactly sell them nationally. Mike Spears was also most recently writing with Billy Falcon (who writes for Bon Jovi). I haven't heard much about Gregg Fulkerson or his album, and I'm not sure when this Mayday Ground record will be finished. But if you're looking for some good "glam" 80's rock 'n roll, I highly reccommend this.

One of the best albums of all time. Such a shame they never made it. Amazing ballads and great rockers. There's not much more to say, this is a fantastic piece of work.

I personally only do these reviews for releases that I believe are undiscovered and unappreciated. The easiest way I can describe who this may appeal to is by saying if you like Bon Jovi around Slippery When Wet era and you're sick of the weak stuff they produce these days then this is something that will fill that void for you. You will put it on and swear its Bon Jovi which is something that may have worked against Blue Tears. Its not so much the songs, they equally sometimes sound Def Leppard like, but his voice is very JBJ. But who cares! Bon Jovi haven't rocked out in over a decade now. It was probably also a bit of late timing that worked against these guys. If you do your digging around the internet, I'm probably not allowed to advertise the site here on Amazon, but Blue Tears have released 2 cds of material that was planned as a follow up to this. And they do not disappoint. I have them and absolutely love them. You may think "unreleased, unproduced demos" but its not the case. The production is just as professional as you would expect and many of the songs are excellently written and played. Four cheers for blue tears.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Glam Albums in The Ninties!, June 16, 2003
By
This review is from: Blue Tears (Audio CD)
I'm a HUGE Fan of the glam scene and have made a major effort to track down albums that have fallen through the huge cracks in the music scene left by grunge bands.
When bands like Danger Danger, White Lion, Quiet Riot, Aldo Nova, Bon Jovi, Firehouse, Fastway, Giant, Ratt, Journey, Scorpions, and Poison. Several of these bands were still whailing out great stuff. The many bands who were in their infancy of coming onto the scene of Glam rock virtually came without notice in the early ninties. Mainly do to the shift in the music scene.
Blue Tears came out with their Self Title album in 1990. There was no label support and no way these guys could have reached the masses of Glam fans who were being left behind for the new Grunge craze. Thanks to the internet these guys are now getting resurrected in several forums and getting large fan support for their early work. Bands like Autograph (and Steve Plunkett with his solo work), Giant (with their release last year titled 3), Hardline (Who also released an album last year titled 2, Hopefully many more for them in the future), 21 Guns releasing a demo album last year with the old front man Tommy LaVerdie (To those of us HUGE Fans out their this was like when Roth Left Van Halen. Tommy needs to hook back up with Leif. Awesome potential), Danger Danger who released "Cockroach" with the album that Ted POley last recorded with them but was never released until last year- This was on great album too (Poley's disc 2 was the only one worth listening to. Also if Poley never records with these guys again they should try diligently to get Tommy LaVerdie. He has a VERY simular sound to Poley), Poison released an album last year with CC (Also Brett Micheals with a solo album this year), Whitesnake is due to release this year a long awaited album, Autograph just released BUZZ last month, and Quiet Riot has been kicking out tunes again for the last few years (With front man Kevin Debrow this band is truley awesome!) and lastly House of Lords is due for another album this year (Hopefully with James Christian at the vocals, No offense David Glen Eisley but since Guifferia your stuff has stank. Dirty White boy was OK though, the solo album [was bad]!) Harem Scarem who never really launched here in the states (These guys are AWESOME! Germany knows this too), Drive She Said is due for a release this year (Another lost band who were on the scene late in the early nineties),Mike Tramp has released a solo album that actually [isn't bad](Mike Tramp away from White Lion and he [isn't bad], Who knew?), Thunder just released a great album this year (Shooting at The Sun! a very good album), and Krokus who has continued to release Great stuff for the last few years (Rock The Block is awesome!!!!, For those AC\DC fans of the early Bon Scott days would think he's been reborn in the name of Mark Storace. He has a great voice, "Blue" was a pretty good listen too!)

Blue Tears fortunately are not lost though. Gregg Fulkerson has rejoined with old band member Mike Spears for HIGHLY anticipated album, for those of us who follow Glam, the self titled "Attraction 65" is due out in August, This of course is their new band.
This next album is written by Fulkerson as well, He of course is the genius who did their debute Blue Tears, Also the near impossible to find Blue Tear demos for their second album that was never released. For those who have had a chance to hear those tracks, they are truly awesome! Totally in the vein of the self title.
Maybe someday Gregg will get the Ok to release those, Whoever has the rights to them of course.

Now if we could only get the boys of Crafft together for another album, or Bangalore Choir, Kix (Steve Whiteman Please regroup with these guys and do up some recordings. We need some new Kix stuff) and a regrouping of the Helix, The boys of Canada, That would be excellent!!!!

My Blessings and prayers to a success with the next album "Attraction 65". How 'bout releasing those demo's too? Throw us a bone, Please
