One of the best film music ever, and certainly one of the best of the 80's, January 5, 2008
This review is from: Blue Thunder: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
There is Vangelis, there is Harold Faltermeyer, and... oh yes, there is Arthur. B. Rubinstein! The highly underrated helicopter action-adventure-thriller, Blue Thunder, directed by 80's hot shot John Badham, and starring the great Roy Scheider from Jaws, and All That Jazz, wasn't a great hit when it ran in theaters near you, but over the years, during the legendary, now historical VHS-era, it's won the rare classic-status. One of the main reasons this film has been embraced over the decades and has endured ever since, is Rubinstein's amazing score. His masterful synthesizer-based music combined with traditional instruments made a unique mixture of an old fashioned and at the same time modern work of art. The main motif of Murphy is simply beautiful, haunting, and gets in your mind so, that you find yourself humming it even days later. And some cues are so well built, especially the helicopter-chase sequence, it's uplifting, really great. This music is of the heroic era of computer-based music, but Arthur B. Rubinstein manages to use this artificial tool as a true master, and the music of Blue Thunder remains one of the best soundtrack in modern cinema history. Bravo, Mr. Rubinstein!

Great Soundtrack Lover, January 21, 2008
This review is from: Blue Thunder: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This is a very rare out of print soundtrack by Arthur B. Rubinstein. "I" agree with the previous reviewer who has sumed it up in great detail... If you enjoyed the Delta Force soundtrack by Alan Silvestri you will enjoy this soundtrack much more. From the opening "Main Title untill the clossing Titles" as "I" would sum this sountrack up as a "HAUNTINGLY CLEVER SOUNDTRACK" that belongs in one's collection. Should you! get your hands on a original copy, grab it, you will not be sorry.

Solid soundtrack for a great 80's movie, February 5, 2012
This review is from: Blue Thunder: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
'Blue Thunder' was a nice little gem of a movie about a high-tech helicopter seen as the ultimate tool in surveillance & crowd control. One of the most underrated aspects of the film was Arthur Rubinstein's great score; an unusual mixture of modern instrumentation with synthesizers. This gave a kind of 'technological' feel to the score, similar to Brad Fiedel's score for 'The Terminator' which came out the following year. The synthesizer effects are certainly appropriate to the film; it shows when the Blue Thunder crew is using the high-tech surveillance cameras & microphone. A fine action film score; certainly appropriate for the 1980s films!
