Good UNIT adventure, March 19, 2009
This review is from: The Blue Tooth (Doctor Who: The Companion Chronicles, 1.3) (Audio CD)
Taking some time away from her duties with UNIT, Liz Shaw goes to Cambridge to meet her friend Jean but instead discovers that Jean has mysteriously disappeared. Turns out several other locals have also gone missing and UNIT is called in to investigate. When the body of a missing man is recovered, the Doctor is surprised to find that human flesh has somehow turned to metal.
I've always been a Liz Shaw fan. She was great--all intellect and arrogance. I was sad when she disappeared without explanation, almost without mention. The Blue Tooth sets about correcting that.
Caroline John does a good job bring the story to life, making it sound less like a script and more like a very personal reminiscence shared over a glass or two of wine.
The Blue Tooth is kind of a sequel to the Troughton television episode "The Invasion"--which means an appearance by the Cybermen as voiced by Nicholas Briggs.
I really enjoyed this audio and I hope that it won't be too long before Liz Shaw shares another one of her adventures with the Doctor.

Liz Shaw Returns, November 23, 2009
This review is from: The Blue Tooth (Doctor Who: The Companion Chronicles, 1.3) (Audio CD)
Liz Shaw returns in the first 3rd doctor audio by big finish as she tells of one of her final adventures with the Doctor as she encounters the Cybermen..
As a rule I don't care for the Cybermen but the plot usage in this story is very creative. We are introduced to their threat in stages and their methods are very creative. Nigel Fairs really plots up and makes the story flow. It has the feel of the 3rd doctor in style and substance.
Caroline John performs as if she never left and Nick Brigs is, well Nick Brigs.
No special features on this one, but the story is so good and so well done that it's special enough. Hope to see a squeal.
