5.0 out of 5 stars The wait is over--Noa's perfect blend, April 1, 2002
This review is from: Blue Touches Blue (Audio CD)
Part of Noa's song "the beauty of that" says "...i don't know what to say it's been so very long we've been waiting for this day.."Noa fans understand this sentiment and can finally say the wait is over. Noa has given us yet another beautifully crafted CD. For thos fans of her earlier work, the musical stylings of her latest, "Blue Touches Blue" is at times reminiscent of her first English album "Noa", and at times reminds one of "Calling". Yet, this CD is netiher, but rather a weaving together of Noa's musical personalities. She delivers ballads like "Haunted" and "Long Coat in Winter" with her beautiful voice side by side with the more pop-styles of "Can I reach you," "Home-made religion" and "The beauty of that". Of course, Israel is an important part of Noa's musical and personal vision, as we hear in "wrap it up with love", the brige to "beauty of that" and fully on "dala, dala" and "morning" (previously released on her last Hebrew album and "Both Sides of the Sea"). Hearing Noa sing the traditional Yemenite song "dala, dala" is a moving experience that translates the song's emotions of love, longing and fear even without the aid of liner notes in English. Lyrically, Noa has written or co-written all the songs which results in pieces that at times simply speak of love, joy and sadness at the state of the world (as in "Angel") and at times deliver rich metaphors of deep emotional awareness that create a colorful palette of visual images to accompany Noa's musical journey. The CD ends with a special bonus track-the title song from the acclaimed "life is beautiful" that leaves the listener with the message to "smile without a reason why" For Noa's fans -her CD alone is a very important reason to smile and to add it to our musical collections. I would also recommend a trip to her website to get a greater look at the early beginnings, musical vision and personal hopes of the artist herself.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Voice, November 19, 2008

This review is from: Blue Touches Blue (Audio CD)
Immediately, the first thing that strikes anyone hearing Noa is her amazing voice. It is beyond great and Noa can easily sits next to the best female voices available. It's melodic, full, rich, effortlessly passionate and precise. She has the type of voice that can't be taught. Understanding the words aren't necessary to enjoy her voice as an instrument (most of the album is english).

The next thing would be her song writing. I am easily bored with pop music and avoid listening to it as much as possible. But her lyrics are layered in such a way to allow (or encourage) different understandings from many perspectives; in a relationship with another, interpersonally or spiritually, or a global "life in our world" viewpoint. One verse will mention tragic world conditions and the following verse will be from her kitchen. The meanings shift each time and make her more interesting to listen to.

Her music is fresh, upbeat and relatable for a wide range of audiences. If grocery stores or restaurants played music like this, I wouldn't want to get out of there quickly in order to save my sanity. But Noa's probably too good for commercial radio.

I'm disappointed Amazon isn't selling mp3 downloads because that's why I came here. Noa's releases are import-expensive and have been hard to find. I don't know who's decision that was, but I hope it's changed. I wanted several of my friends to hear her too.
