5.0 out of 5 stars THE MYSTERIES OF LOVE
This is one of the most cherished cd's I own. I usually put it on and listen to the last three songs before listening to the rest of the album. The rest of the soundtrack is terrific especially the instrumental theme track, "Blue Velvet" and the Twin Peaks-like music in "Lumberton, U.S.A.", the small town where Blue Velvet takes place in. I would have loved it if Bobby...

2.0 out of 5 stars The Original Bobby Vinton version is not the CD
I bought this years ago. I have to give it a low rating because the original Blue Velvet by Bobby Vinton is not on the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE MYSTERIES OF LOVE, February 7, 2002

This is one of the most cherished cd's I own. I usually put it on and listen to the last three songs before listening to the rest of the album. The rest of the soundtrack is terrific especially the instrumental theme track, "Blue Velvet" and the Twin Peaks-like music in "Lumberton, U.S.A.", the small town where Blue Velvet takes place in. I would have loved it if Bobby Vinton's original version of "Blue Velvet" were included which was the inspiration for the film and was the song in the opening sequence and Main Titles, but instead we get Isabella Rosselini's version when she sings at a nightclub. I liked Rosselini's version too but it was somehow cut short to only a minute long. The soundtrack is entirely instrumental until track #12. The strength of the cd really comes in full force at the end when Roy Orbison's "In Dreams" takes you back to the scene of the unforgettable lip-synching by Dean Stockwell. It's a classic Lynch moment. Following this is Ketty Lester's "Love Letters", an absolutely gorgeous slow song played when Jeffrey Beaumont finds the man with the missing ear killed in the apartment of madman Frank Booth. The soundtrack ends with Julee Cruise's "Mysteries Of Love," an ethereal dream-like love song played at the end of the film in the unforgettable scene when Dorothy Vallens becomes reunited with her long lost son.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb soundtrack!, February 7, 2002

The soundtrack to Blue Velvet is just as hauntingly brilliant as the film itself. When you listen to this one, you can easily remember scenes from the film and its one of the best soundtracks I've ever bought. Its haunting, eerie and a tad bit creepy at moments but its the kind of music you might listen to in the dark with the headphones on, a glass of wine in one hand and a cigarette in the other, imagining yourself at the club watching Isabella singing her rendition of "Blue Velvet". Simply put, it takes you back to Lumberton and the film very nicely.

If you like ethereal and strange music, this is a good one for your collection. If you're already a Blue Velvet fan, you will love this as well. Brilliant.

I am no expert on music, but all of David Lynch's movie scores are entrancing. This one jumps from melodious New Age tunes to Roy Orbison in a strange yet gelling fashion. Truly a weird night of listening pleasure...

4.0 out of 5 stars Too Bad the Title Song Isn't on the SOUNDTRACK!!, March 14, 2001

The soundtrack is great, but Bobby Vinton's "Blue Velvet" was not included. Fans of the opening sequence may want to reconsider. All you're going to get is the version sung by Isabella - who butchered it. She can act, but she can't sing. Though, Badalamenti's adaptation of the song is nice. The standouts: Doggett Trio, Love Letters, Mysteries of Love, Aakron Meets the Blues. NOTE: If you want to invest in "Bobby Vinton's Greatest Hits" for Blue Velvet, adjust the balance clockwise to about eight to make the vocal harmonies sound distant as Lynch did. The song was also originially recorded in B-Flat, and Lynch speeded the pitch control to the key of B, which actually sounds better. Just be warned: the song "Blue Velvet" is NOT on the soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Badalamenti's Best!, July 29, 2004
This review is from: Blue Velvet: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Angelo Badalamenti just has a way of capturing an everyday occurence and turning it into an unsettling experience. The score to Blue Velvet is no exception. Just like the film, Badalamenti focuses on the dark side, the underbelly, of the quintessential, care-free suburban lifestyle. Charming kitsch transforms into eerie film noir seemlessly right before listeners' ears.

Blue Velvet, such an amazing movie with such an amazing soundtrack that nobody should miss. I love the album, it brings me to a world of beauty, violence, secrets, love, warmth, betrayl, evil, darkness and light all at the same time in the same awesome record by Angelo Badalementi with features from Roy Orbison and other amazing 60's composers. Buy it, even if Lynch isn't your thing, it'll make a mark on you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grandioso Electrifying Inolvidable Unico irremplazable, June 29, 1999

This review is from: Blue Velvet: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
David Lynch as film director and Angelo Badalamenti as music director have come together to create an emotive molotov. This movie/CD should be a must for any thrilled follower of uniqueness Hollywood! The industry is far from making something as good as this duo made in 1986. Which is really bad. For a big minority audience and viewers this movie/cd marked a turning point.

4.0 out of 5 stars Music from Lynchland, November 9, 2006

This review is from: Blue Velvet: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This album not only nicely tracks the film but offers a lasting record of the highlights of the first film score in the career-long relationship between David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti--and also the first Julee Cruise work for a Lynch film. It's satisfying in its own right, but also offers delicious hints of the even greater achievements that lay ahead for the director-composer team that went on to TWIN PEAKS, TWIN PEAKS FIRE WALK WITH ME, LOST HIGHWAY, and MULHOLLAND DR.
