Editorial Reviews

Three bloody years after they began fighting, the Confederate forces appeared to be winning the Civil War, despite their smaller numbers. Then in the spring of 1874, the Union Army of the Potomac, led by the ruthlessly determined Ulysses S. Grant, reversed the course of the conflict and of American history and race relations. The toll in terms of lives lost on both the Blue (Northern) and Gray (Southern) sides was staggering. More than 125 years later, this harrowing re-enactment of tide-turning clashes was filmed on actual battlefields and is expertly narrated by Civil War scholars. 2 hours on 3 cassettes or 1 DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Thoughts on Killing Fields September 7, 2005
Format:DVD
This documentary was well organized and properly displayed. The battle summaries were startling. It brought the reality of war into perspective. The Killing Fields is a must for any Civil War enthusiast.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I had Hoped June 14, 2006
Format:DVD
This was dissapointing for me. The commentary is very good, but the battle scenes were not that great in my opinion. It could be I was spoiled after watching "The American Civil War: A Union Divided" which I thought was FAR better

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT the Civil War version of Band of Brothers August 13, 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
There are several glaring errors made to historical data on the series, such as claiming the Battle of the Wilderness cost over 24,000 Union and 17,000 Confederate losees and Grant was Lee's student at West Point. It's been said to be the Civil War version of Band of Brothers (which is why I bought it) and I have to say no, it's not.

It's still very nice to see reenactors do what they love, but it always annoys me that despite them carrying blanks, they are unable to actually point thier guns at the enemy. I don't know if it's a rule against it or not.
