4.0 out of 5 stars Works ...
I received this card reader bundled "for free" with a class 6, 8 GB Sandisk SDHC card. I've used it successfully with my 512 MB to 2 GB standard SD cards, as well as 4 GB to 8 GB SDHC cards, each one a different brand. I haven't used it that many times, so I can't comment on durability. It seems to work as advertised, although I must admit I was skeptical when I first...

I have ordered two 4gb SDHC cards and this was a special offer(free) to go with it. When I checked them out, they charged $16 for s/h. Then I realized that it wasn't free after all.

Last time I shopped the similar one, they offered the blue card reader, with a red LED light that shows the transfer of your files to USB port. This black one does not have that simple feature.

This one or the blue one, while plugged into USB, the cap is being separated and hence very easy to be missing.

When I contacted BlueTron to explain about the overcharge, they ignored my question for 14 days, and, when I left a negative feedback to their profile, they wrote me back, still refusing to explain why but to simply ask me to return them if it was faulty. I never said neither item was faulty. It shows how poor they run their business. Don't get fooled like I did. Spend money for something better, not for this deceptive freebie offer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not free OR a good product, September 6, 2009
This review is from: BlueProton USB 2.0 6-in-1 Single Slot Memory Card Reader Writer for SD SDHC MiniSD MMC rsMMC (BLACK) (Personal Computers)
This "freebie" actually turned out to cost me more in shipping that the full price product. Not only that, I got two of them and neither work.

I'd consider this product a class A ripoff, and couldn't see recommending it to anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok if free or cheap, works but has design problems, February 16, 2009

This review is from: BlueProton USB 2.0 6-in-1 Single Slot Memory Card Reader Writer for SD SDHC MiniSD MMC rsMMC (BLACK) (Personal Computers)
I got this as "freebie" with a 16GB card. Mine has the red "working light", which is handy to remind me I've got a removable device attached.

Vista reacts a bit strangely to it with requests to "insert media", but if you ignore that (like you ignore most of Vista's overkill granny messages), it works fine as a removable drive. (I don't swap cards when it is in the laptop, so don't know if that in fact works.) Mostly use it with the same card in it.
Seems to be quite fast and reliable.

However, like others, I'm a bit queasy about the construction: the plastic case is extremely thin; if you even lightly pinch the case in the middle over the circuitry, it gives and "crackles". The edges where the caps fit and card is inserted are also very thin and look like they'd be easily chipped.

The caps are easily lost/misplaced (I've had to search through the covers when using laptop in bed and absentmindedly put cap down on the bed instead of night table. Thankfully, I don't have a cat, which would probably think the cap was a great toy.) Also the caps pull off very easily; I keep the device in a small pocket in my laptop case, and sometimes the cap comes off when I pull the device out and it happens that I've only got hold of the cap.

I also tend to try to insert it in the port upside down half the time.

And it was just shipped in a light bubblewrap envelope, little protection considering how the thing probably wouldn't survive much pressure on the sides. Like other reviewers, I'm not impressed with the shipping practices.

I might get another if it were a freebie again, and the shipping & handling weren't outrageous.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay away from all things BlueProton!!!, January 13, 2010

This review is from: BlueProton USB 2.0 6-in-1 Single Slot Memory Card Reader Writer for SD SDHC MiniSD MMC rsMMC (BLACK) (Personal Computers)
I just wanted to write a quick review to advise people to stay way from purchasing anything that is associated with blueproton!

Product is light and looks very cheap... I don't expect it to work long.

Just like one of the other reviewers stated they grossly overcharge on shipping!

If you think the special offer is worth it... it is not... Free does not mean Absolutely Free! (dane cook joke). You will need to pay for shipping. Some may think, well of course... but when shipping is almost $12 you start to wonder. (shipped to a house in the lower 48 states)

I purchased an AR y adapter from blueproton and took advantage of their speical offer. OPPS... place my order a little hastely without fully checking out the total. About 5 minutes after I placed the order I quickly caught the high shipping price. I quickly emailed amazon to try and cancle my order (about 10 minutes after order placement) and they promptly responded to telling me that the order has been processed and I would need to talk to the seller about my order directly. I did just that but they did not respond to my first email... so I sent another email... no responce... I sent a third email... no responce. 3 days go by with no responce... then the item finally said it was shipped. Oh and to top it off they shipped it with standard shipping so it was not trackable and showed up later than estimated!

Total shipping for both items was over $16... I paid for my mistake of not fully checking my price.

Thanks for the lesson BlueProton!

(This isn't a review of the actual product.) I was going to purchase this along with the memory card because it was supposed to be free. But when you add the 3.95 shipping to the shipping you're already paying for the memory card, it comes out to close to 8.00 shipping. I seriously doubt it costs that much additional shipping to toss this into the box with the memory card. I passed on the "deal".

I purchased this item bundled with an 8G SDHC card. Card is working fine but this reader is not. In two different computers the drive is recognized but the card inside the drive is not detected. I know card is working because I can read it in a different reader just fine.

Sent two emails to BlueProton asking for replacement but haven't heard from them. May have to complain to amazon about them.

At first it worked normally for several times. Then after a couple of months, it malfunctioned: "USB Device Not Recognized". I do not recommend it at all.

This item arrived loose in shipping package (although the product packaging was also loose in shipping package) and upon first attempt to use this item, it did not operate. Both Vista and XP systems would ask for drive to be inserted even after trying many cards several times. Also, vendor (BlueProton) was very unresponsive to many times being contacted and did not even give full refund for defective product. I found the product's material and construction to be inferior. You would be better off to just get yourself a good multi-card reader at your local computer or office supply store for about 10 dollars.

I purchased this as a promo with the 4GB SDHC Extreme III card from Blueproton, and it arrived promptly, although without any notice from amazon or blueproton (no shipping confirmation). It is a generic adapter with the blueproton logo. My computers are not that new, so I did not expect any of their built in readers to accept SDHC. I tried, and of course, none worked. Using this adapter, I can empty the 4GB memory card from my D90 in a couple of minutes. It works as expected without driver updates or software necessary for Windows XP and shows up as a "letter" drive labeled as what the SD card is labeled as.

If you do not already have an SDHC reader, this could be a cheap solution to your problem. As always, be sure your device (like digital camera) is able to use the 4GB+ cards labeled as SDHC, because many older devices (lets say, before 2006)do not.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card

I am only taking off one star because it looks so generic and because it scratched off a small portion of my brand new 4GB Extreme III card's label the first time I used it.
