Product Description

"Bluebird From The Sky" is the latest and best recording by the New York 'classic jazz' duo Johnny Russo and Doug Robinson. Johnny Russo is a gifted trumpet and trombone player inspired by Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, and Jack Teagarden. The CD contains songs from the Golden Age of American Popular Music plus several originals in that same great tradition, all typified by a relaxed spirit of fun and fantastic swing. Special guest appearances by swing guitar master Mike Dowling, tenor banjo star Drew Frech , and vocalist Minden Jones.

I first heard Johnny Russo and Doug Robinson last summer at the Commons in Ithaca, New York, delighting a crowd with their swinging '40s and '50s sounds. The release of their latest and best CD "Bluebird From the Sky",-- accompanied by Minden Jones (vocals), Mike Dowling (guitar) and Drew French (tenor banjo) -- is great news for Russo-Robinson fans, and for music-lovers everywhere.

In the opening tune, "For You and Me", Russo and Jones take us on a musical tour of places around the globe. In the feel-great title song, "Bluebird From the Sky", Johnny and Doug are accompanied by the singing of bluebirds, recorded live by naturalist-author Lang Elliott. And in "How Doug and I Play The Blues", Johnny taps the genius of Johann Bach and Louis Armstrong, as he shares the secret of his magic for playin' from the heart and soul.

All together the new release contains 11 songs, 6 great originals, and 5 lively classics, all rendered in the original Russo & Robinson style. With this magical CD, these two masters of jazz and improv have done something genuinely heartfelt and beautiful, giving us songs and sounds that are unforgettable.
