5.0 out of 5 stars Great bluegrass -- Excellent value
All-instrumental collections of bluegrass are hard to find, and if you like it when a band takes a break from singing and just plays their instruments, here's your chance for total immersion. All the songs on this compilation are from Rounder Records albums released 1976-1998, by artists with familiar names like Alison Krauss and Tony Rice, and others you may never have...

3.0 out of 5 stars good but not great
This album was good, not great. If you want to hear great then get Tony Rice the bluegrass album or another one called "ultimate Pickin'" , for bluegrass with singing try ricky skaggs at charleston hall. Those are great albums, this was okay.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bluegrass -- Excellent value, January 5, 2003
This review is from: Bluegrass Breakdown: 14 Instrumentals (Audio CD)
All-instrumental collections of bluegrass are hard to find, and if you like it when a band takes a break from singing and just plays their instruments, here's your chance for total immersion. All the songs on this compilation are from Rounder Records albums released 1976-1998, by artists with familiar names like Alison Krauss and Tony Rice, and others you may never have heard of. All are first rate, foot stompin' renditions of bluegrass traditionals, with a few great originals -- Bill Monroe's "Bluegrass Breakdown" and Earl Scruggs' "Foggy Mountain Chimes." Best known for most listeners is a rousing version of "Orange Blossom Special" by the Johnson Mountain Boys. If you like bluegrass with plenty of pickin' at breakneck speed, this CD will keep you smilin' through many, many replays.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing compilation, March 31, 2009

I received this CD about 9 years ago, ripped all the tracks to MP3 format and tossed the disc. After listening to it several times in my workshop, I realized that it was the best single collection of instrumental bluegrass I have ever listened to, far better than the highly touted "Three Pickers". Unfortunately I did not retain the tag data so I never knew who the artists were. Thanks to Lee @ BluegrassCountry.org who identified several tracks just by listening to them, I was able to identify this album as my original source. I have over 600 bluegrass MP3s on my computer and these are the best of the best. If you want good, clean, pure, classic bluegrass, this is the album for you.

I liked only the tracks 1 and 6. The songs have good banjo picking but are not beautiful enough to keep me listening more than one time.

This product was delivered on Monday, April 16th to the wrong address. The postal service is very uncooperative. They supposedly have put a trace on it.So as of today I have still not received my CD which was for a wedding in April. I finally figured out how to email Amazon last week and I still haven't heard anything from them either. I do a lot of shopping on line, but this has been a real bad experience, especially with the P.O.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful, great talent, June 5, 1999

I have just become connected to the Web today. It is just great that I can now access my favorite music, bluegrass. It is hard to locate in the music stores. This will get me back to date. I have missed it for some years now except for a local radio station which has a show once a week.
