This review is from: Bluegrass Class of 1990 (Audio CD)
The Rounder label has been one of the leading proponents of bluegrass music since its inception in 1970 and in 1990 they released this anthology on CD to celebrate their twentieth anniversary. This is 22 tracks and sixty-five minutes of some of the finest bluegrass around.
Don't be mislead by the title, the earliest track is from J.D. Crowe and the New South's 1975 landmark album through Tony Furtado's 1989 debut SWAMPED. And with the camaraderie found on small labels, you find many of these artists performing on each other's songs. For example, while Tony Rice is the leader on only two of these tacks, he appears on eight. Jerry Douglas is also on eight. Ricky Skaggs is on four. Sam Bush is on three.
If you enjoyed such recent Rounder anthologies as TRUE BLUEGRASS and BLUEGRASS MOUNTAIN STYLE (the latter was a repackaging of 1987's ROUNDER BLUEGRASS 2), you'll find much to enjoy here. I already had most of this material on vinyl; but this was an economic way to upgrade these songs onto CD. RECOMMENDED
