After expanding the parameters of bluegrass throughout the 1960s, the Osbornes returned to the classic bluegrass sound and repertoire for this landmark 1978 recording. Because they'd traveled so far afield, these 24 traditional performances of Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, and the Stanley Brothers own a freshness and excitement that match the Osbornes' best work. Bobby's piercing high tenor vocals (check out "Kentucky Waltz") and Sonny's vigorous five-string banjo picking are both as strong as ever while Kenny Baker and Blaine Sprouse add potent twin fiddles. Without going into any detail: this is the best bluegrass CD bar none. Whether you are new to the sound or a veteran- it doesn't get any better than this.

I've gotten back into bluegrass over the last two years and bought around twenty different CD's. This one is by far the best! The compilation of classic BG tunes combined with the super instrumental and vocals is unbeatable. Anyone who wants a wonderful overview of the way bluegrass should be performed should own this one!

The Osborne Brothers bluegrass music is on top of my list of bluegrass albums. The high tenor bluegrass singing of Bobby makes for better bluegrass. The choice of songs picked for this album are all good bluegrass songs. As you can tell, Bluegrass is my favorite type of music. It is hard to find good albums, but this one is tops...
