5.0 out of 5 stars Delousing The Mouse From Modest To Mighty
SUMMARY: God I hate Modest Mouse. God I love this album.

I don't fit the personality-type of the majority here. I like all kinds of music, but what I like does not include Modest Mouse. Sorry folks, I'm just not into it. Every time one of their songs starts to rock, then the guy has to start singing. I can't stand the sound of his voice. That said, I am...

Alright, this album does not do a good job at all making the original intruments to a bluegrass rythem. Plus, it is not Issac Brock singing! Also, the lyrics were changed pretty heavy. I have not listened to the other blugrass tribute, but I hope it is better than this. Even Green Days blugrass tribute was better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delousing The Mouse From Modest To Mighty, February 3, 2007

SUMMARY: God I hate Modest Mouse. God I love this album.

I don't fit the personality-type of the majority here. I like all kinds of music, but what I like does not include Modest Mouse. Sorry folks, I'm just not into it. Every time one of their songs starts to rock, then the guy has to start singing. I can't stand the sound of his voice. That said, I am plenty familiar with their songs, having been subjected to their entire catalog throughout my years attending art school, plus years after I've unfortunately chosen friends who think they are a really great band.

A friend of mine turned me onto this and I was completely blown away. This is an incredible album. At first, hearing 'Float On' and 'Trailer Trash' I was laughing, but this is no joke. My favorite ones are 'Interstate 8' and '3rd Planet'. They and other songs have this wistful, sad effect, enough to literally make you cry, -- so be assured the original "emo" tag is not lost here. I mean they don't just make these songs sound like bluegrass, -- they really tear them up and play hard. I'm really in love with this album and intend to check out others in the 'Pickin'' series. And for fans of Modest Mouse, let me say I have gained a new appreciation for their songwriting, if not their sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Lyrics, Great Music., May 30, 2008
This review is from: The Bluegrass Tribute to Modest Mouse : Something You've Never Heard Before (Audio CD)
I have been a Modest Mouse fan for a long time and friends of mine had raved about this album, so it took me awhile, but I finally took a peak at it.

I am so sorry that I did not listen to this before. It was done by the bluegrass band "Iron Horse" and they did such a wonderful job on the arrangements that I was rather blown away.

I love the originals, and on this cd they do a bunch of the best know tracks and you know, I actually like some of them better than the original. I think that "Gravity Rides Everything" just sounds better more upbeat than the way MM did it.

If you are a Modest Mouse fan, or even if you are not a MM fan or have never listened to them, but you are a bluegrass music fan, this is a must own.

Incredible. I can repeat this over and over and over and it wouldn't be enough. Good source material, exceptional bluegrass adaptations. Phenomenal. One of my go-to albums for driving in the car.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than The Mouse, March 30, 2010

I had never heard Modest Mouse before hearing this CD of bluegrass covers of their songs. So, I don't know what I would've thought if I was a huge M.M. fan and then heard this. All I know is that this collection of M.M. covers by Iron Horse has brought great joy to my heart and to my soul. It makes my heart soar like a hawk. I really don't give 5 stars away to just anything, but there is no CD more worth it than this collection. Listen to the samples and if you don't like it -- go away.

I'm a big fan of both Modest Mouse and bluegrass but when I opened this for Christmas I was a little skeptical. To my suprise it was quite an enjoyable listen. My favorite songs bluegrass style would have to be 'Trailer Trash' and 'Float On'. As a previous reviewer indicated, you definitely gain a better appreciation for MM songwriting ability. If you are a fan of Modest Mouse, I would check this album out.

I am a fan of all kinds of music. Indie (not emo)is #1. Bluegrass is #2. in so many ways they are the same. so it is natural that iron Horse would do a bluegrass version of some of the greatest Mouse songs ever. Iron Horse may just pack more emotion into these songs than MM does. The mandolin is awesome. The vocal twang is awesome. Trailer Trash (my fav MM song) is also my favorite song on this album. Get it!! it will blow you away. You may be skeptical, saying to yourself "i can't see modest Mouse lyrics fitting into a bluegrass layout." but they do. they are songs about life, about loss, about insecurity and bluegrass is the perfect medium.
