Editorial Reviews

Review

"Love this book! I reviewed Blueprints Emergency Medicine just prior to studying for my boards, and it was a terrific quick review of the big topics of medicine. The new table of contents looks great. I like that it's been completely restructured from the first edition. I'd definitely recommend it as a good general medical review text, certainly a handy reference for a month-long med student rotation." - Sarah K. Taylor, Pediatrics Resident, Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center/University of Washington "I would definitely recommend Blueprints Emergency Medicine to any student taking an emergency medicine rotation, and also for general review even for someone in internal medicine. I feel that this book encompasses a lot of good aspects of medicine that are helpful for learning the initial basics and initial treatments." - Leigh R. Anderson, Internal Medicine Resident, University of Nevada School of Medicine "What I enjoy most about Blueprints is that they distill the most pertinent aspects of a specialty into an easily readable review book. You continue that tradition with Blueprints Emergency Medicine. After spending over four weeks as a medical student in the ER, I can tell you that you definitely capture the major aspects of an ER rotation that student should be familiar with. Overall, the chapters are complete and comprehensive and make great use of boxes and figures while not providing so much information that you become overwhelmed. I would definitely recommend this text to a friend." - Alexander Iribarne, Harvard Medical School, 2005 "I think the content changes have made Blueprints Emergency Medicine far superior to its 1st edition and a very useful book for anyone doing an emergency rotation or going through 3rd year rotations. It gives a nice review of board topics and typical board case scenarios as well as giving the current recommendations seen in practice now. I believe this book hits on a lot of useful information in an easy, readable format." - Leigh R. Anderson, Internal Medicine Resident, University of Nevada School of Medicine "Blueprints Emergency Medicine is very, very well written and terribly pithy. I think that each chapter is the perfect combination of concise information and ease of reading. It seems to cover all of the major topics in a consistent and logical fashion, and it reads effortlessly. The content and format of the chapters is great. The tables are awesome; they serve as great organizational and last minute study aids." - Sarah K. Taylor, Pediatrics Resident, Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center/University of Washington "Blueprints Emergency Medicine does a great job of addressing the major topics one encounters in an ER. All the essential information is consolidated into one book that you can carry around with you and study with in the hospital or at home. The text isn't so long that you wouldn't be able to finish it before the end of the rotation, and isn't so short that it would be too superficial to provide pertinent details. It would definitely provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge during their ER rotation." - Alexander Iribarne, Harvard Medical School, 2005

3.0 out of 5 stars Just ok, July 30, 2008
This review is from: Blueprints Emergency Medicine (Blueprints Series) (Paperback)
Most people take emergency medicine in their 4th year of medical school. This book is a good overview of the subject, but in reality you will have already heard all of this in your third year clerkships, what you need to focus on in this book is the emergent treatments for the conditions it lists. Since you only have one month of EM I'd recommend you either start reading this book ahead of time or just use this as a reference.

Carried this book daily for my rotation in Emergency Medicine. Concise, easy to read format, great information and well laid out in print form. Charts and easy to follow format make this a great book for quick reference.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok book, March 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Blueprints Emergency Medicine (Blueprints Series) (Paperback)
This book is OK. It is a very much basic, not detailed review of the subject. I was expecting a bit more from the book. I sold it back as a like new after it spent a few weeks in my backpack.
If you want to review EM I'd recommend a different book.
