It covers probably 75-80% of what you might need for the FM shelf, but some of the sections just aren't detailed enough. The questions are the best part of the book.

Good book for quickly looking up treatment guidelines for the more common issues seen in family medicine. It's basically a book of facts, so a little difficult just to read and remember all the info. It seems high-yield to me for studying, but I recommend getting a supplemental book or two to help you go through the topics. Blueprints is pretty dry reading.

Great little book. This book packs a big punch, highlighting how patients are most likely to present, their H&P, labs to run and treatment. Each chapter is one or two pages, but its all high yield. There are 1 or two little practice tests at the end to help gauge your understanding. Great little resource.

Each chapter is very short and gives you a brief overview of every aspect of the given topic (pathophys., treatment. Etc.). This series assumes that you know lots about these topics before you open the book, so it may mention something that you haven't heard or thought about in a very long time with no refresher information at all. Good quick reference book. Don't use this as a primary source for learning!

Compared to other resources to study for the family medicine shelf, this one is so-so. Some areas too dense and others needing more coverage, making it not comprehensive and not work as well as some of the other available resources

does not have sufficient detail as a stand-alone resource for the shelf. would recommend using supplemental resources if using this book.

I'm currently on my family medicine rotation and have used this almost daily to study from or as a quick reference. It is concise and well written as a good reference should be.

If you are looking for a case based book this won't be of much use to you. The book is broken up into symptoms. If you want to look up something on hypertension, you turn to that chapter. It lists common diagnoses/complaints, differentials, basic pathophysiology, treatments and background information for every single one. It's by no means a comprehensive reference but it's got everything you absolutely must know about a given subject.

My only complaint is the size; this book could be made a bit thicker and scaled down to smaller dimensions for a white coat pocket, exponentially increasing it's utility. Right now it's about the size of an iPad and really only suited for my bag which isn't always in easy reach.
