Oustanding Overall Text,
By
This review is from: Blueprints Obstetrics and Gynecology (Blueprints Series) (Paperback)
This is best overall text I've seen for 3rd year clerkships in any subject so far. I was not a fan of Blueprints Surgery or Psychiatry, but this book does a lot of things well. It's readable, short enough to digest, summarizes things well, and is pretty thorough. I felt it was effective for both the shelf exam and knowing what was going on in the wards and clinic. It teaches the basics of such essentials like reading fetal heart rate strips, diagnosing UTIs, etc. This book also combines the pathophys of diseases with clinical skills very well.
I would disagree with the other reviewer who said you need more in depth materials. 3rd year is as much about effective studying as depth of knowledge. Busting out resident-level texts or Up-to-date can bog you down. You need simple answers explained in a memorable way. Knowing the level of material in this book *throughly* should be enough to satisfy most of the residents and attendings you'll be working with. Case Files Ob/Gyn by Toy is the most time effective resource for the shelf, but this book is a more sturdy and lasting foundation for the rotation. The questions in the back are great as well, with effective explanations of answer choices. I just wish every rotation had something like this...

Great review for a daunting rotation,

This was quite simply the only resource I needed for my ob/gyn rotation and shelf exam. There were very few questions on the exam that were not covered by ob/gyn blueprints, and all of those were ID/medicine-oriented (e.g., organism-specific antibiotic questions). I would recommend reading this book and only this book - read it 2 or 3 times. That is all I did, and it was one of my best shelf scores.

All you need.,

This is one of the best of the blueprints series. This is all I read for the ob/gyn rotation. It is fairly comprehensive and will suffice for both the shelf exam at the end of a medical school clnical rotation and for usmle step 2. Unless your particularly interested in ob/gyn (and I was not), I wouldn't buy anything else on this topic.

I used this book along with Case Files and was able to blow away the shelf. Use these two books, along with the Blueprints Q&A book and you should be golden!

A good and concise book for fast revision,

Overall, it's a very concise book which cost you about 2 weeks to finish and helps to grab the core knowledge. Suitable for exam preparation but not as the core text book. I'll suggest Obstetrics and Gynaecology by Ten Teachers as the text books if time of reading and depth of knowledge is to be balanced.

I felt extremely prepared by using BP Ob/Gyn and Case Files Ob/Gyn. As a medical student, I was on a busy service with lots of hands on experiences in both these fields. Although I sometimes had questions that didn't fall into the high yield format of these books, if you know them both well it will make your life easier (you'll be prepared for work-up/management issues) and you'll look like an all-star (pimping).
Also, I used an older edition and was able to compare it to the new edition. Most topics are the same, but there are some additional photos/illustrations in the new book. I believe you would still gather the same overall understanding using either, but if you're a picture person then by all means use the newer version.

excellent primary resource for 3rd year ob/gyn clerkship,
This review is from: Blueprints Obstetrics and Gynecology Fourth Edition (Blueprints Series) (Paperback)
I haven't been impressed with Blueprints for medicine or psychiatry, but for ob/gyn it's the single best review book. Pair up with Casefiles and a question book or question bank online and you will do very well on the shelf.

I feel that this is the best currently available option for ObGyn clerkship. Easy read and sufficient for passing mock boards - good luck!

This is a really great product for anyone on rotations. It really explains all the ins & outs for the rotation & has lots of good info to help review. I know residents & physicians that both suggest this book & I can definitely understand why.

This book had everything I needed to feel like I was learning what was expected of me during the rotation as well as helping me get a great foundation as to base my studies for Step 2. I plan on looking back at this book while I get ready for Step 2 to brush up on the finer points. Overall a great book and worth the money spent!
