Presenting the BR-60 Contemporary Series Dreadnaught Acoustic Guitar by Blueridge

The world's most popular guitar shape gives the Blueridge BR-60 a smooth tone with great power and projection. The Sitka spruce top is braced with the traditional forward-X pattern and the back, sides and peghead overlay are figured Santos rosewood. The slim mahogany neck has an adjustable truss rod and the entire guitar is finished in a lovely high-gloss natural finish. Vintage-style 14:1 ratio open-back tuning machines with butterbean buttons complete the prewar vintage vibe of this great-sounding, affordable Blueridge guitar!

Traditional Look
Distinctive Design
Body Wood Selections

Solid Sitka spruce, one of the world’s strongest and most durable woods, is used for the tops of our Contemporary Series guitars. When combined with the prewar forward-X bracing pattern, the top has the perfect balance of strength and flexibility to promote the ideal tone. For the back and sides, you have a choice of select mahogany or nicely figured Santos rosewood. The entire guitar is finished in a high gloss natural shade that displays the beauty of the woods employed. And with a cutaway option, our Contemporary Series has just the right guitar for any musical need!

Fingerboards and Fittings

Every Contemporary Series guitar features fingerboard and bridge of East Indian rosewood - chosen for its hardness and stability as well as its beauty. The standard models feature pearl position dots while the top models of the BR-70 series have hexagonal outlines of abalone pearl to complement the matching pearl inlaid border of the top and the central soundhole rosette ring. A traditional teardrop-shaped pickguard of black ABS is used on all models, and the mahogany models are bound in black ABS while the rosewood models feature white ABS binding. Vintage-style, open-back tuners with butterbean buttons are used on all models. These 14:1 ratio gears turn smoothly and easily and will give years of trouble-free service. They are heavily nickel-plated, with gold-plate on the BR-70 series.

Every feature of construction that has made the prewar instruments so great is used on these new Contemporary Series guitars. The dovetail neck/body joint is the strongest known and all interior blocks and braces are just big enough to combine sufficient strength with the least possible weight. The nut width of 1 11/16 is designed to please both acoustic and electric guitar players and the neck profile is small and properly shaped for the ultimate in playing ease and comfort.

The Details

With the top being the single most important factor in the production of tone, the combination of a solid top with laminated back and sides offers a great sounding guitar that can be priced so affordably as to be within the means of virtually any guitarist - even the aspiring student. An added bonus is the crack-resistant nature of the laminated wood, which, though strong, is still thin enough to add resonance to the tone. Blueridge offers in these Contemporary Series guitars the perfect balance of tone, playability and affordability that has made us the true benchmark that all other makers strive to emulate. Blueridge guitars offer you the most value for less!

Unbelievable Sound And Build Quality

The Blueridge Contemporary Series offers guitarists instruments priced easily within the means of the serious student, but have all the features that the pro player demands. A solid top of close-grained spruce, braced with the time-honored forward-X bracing pattern, offers tone and volume that you won’t find anywhere else. The slim, low-profile mahogany neck is designed for the modern player and the adjustable truss rod keeps the neck in perfect alignment at all times. The styling is tasteful and understated with delicate black and white lines of ornamental purfling on the standard models and the top model has a top border and sound hole rosette of genuine abalone pearl. Incorporating all the accepted construction methods that made the prewar guitars so great, these guitars sound fabulous right out of the box. With select models featuring Fishman electronics and a cutaway option, our Contemporary Series has just the right guitar for any musical need!

Frankly, I wasn't at all certain about purchasing a guitar on-line, but after a lot of research I decided that the BR-60 was the right tool for me, and I placed the order. As has been the norm for me, the guitar (and the case that I ordered at the same time) arrive in a couple of days, and everything was in great condition. I fully expected that I would have to take the guitar to my local tech for a setup and was amazed when I brought it up to tune how well it was out of the box. The tech that looked at it was likewise amazed and didn't have to make any adjustments from the factory settings. It speaks highly of the folks at Blueridge that it can be so stable after shipping across the country.

As for the guitar, it's everything that I was looking for. I was looking for a box with a boomier low end for the rhythm bluegrass stuff that I generally play and this is much more like a Martin than the low end Taylor that I've been playing. The action was good, and the intonation true. I fretted over whether to go with the BR-160 with the solid sides and back and finally decided that price was a factor, and that my experience with plywood backs and sides on other guitars made it worth the risk (and I don't think anyone will likely be about to tell the difference at first blush). Yes, it's not a Martin and it's made in China, but I was looking for a tool, not a collectible and this meets my needs well, at a price that doesn't leave me in a panic when I make a wrong turn and bump into someone else. All in all this purchase has been a great experience and I would not hesitate in buying on-line provided I spent a bunch of time doing on-line research prior to the purchase.

I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I have a vintage Gibson, and a newer Gibson Hummingbird Pro, among other guitars. I played a couple of used Blueridge guitars in guitar shops here and in London. I was very impressed in both cases (in fact, in London the guitar was tagged "not for sale" in a shop full of expensive vintage instruments...the store owner said he was keeping it for himself because he really liked the way it sounded/played...which I thought was pretty amusing given its China origins and low cost.) I had no idea where Blueridge guitars were sold since I'd only seen the used instruments in shops, and happened across the brand on Amazon. I've never bought an instrument without playing it first, so I held off quite a while before buying this one. I wanted a guitar I could travel with that I wouldn't worry about being stolen from a hotel room, or dinged up. The other inexpensive guitars I've bought for this purpose always let me down, so I tended to leave them home. Finally, I decided to take the chance and ordered this guitar. I have to say, I'm very happy I did so. While it's not the equal of my far more expensive Gibsons, it is very well made, looks good, sounds and plays terrific for the price right out of the box...and even independent of the price. Just a nice instrument. The only negative was the poor quality of the shipping carton. My guitar suffered a slight dent on the back...not so bad I am bothered, but I was surprised by how lightly it was packed.

Otherwise, a very good choice for a nice, inexpensive guitar that looks and sounds like a more expensive one. Highly recommended.Blueridge BR-60 Contemporary Dreadnaught Guitar with Santos Rosewood Back and Sides

The guitar was set up nicely and sounded good, however the finished was damaged with no visual package damage, it looks like it was damaged at the factory. i would have opted for a replacement but didn't want to take a chance with quality control that is that poor.
Update, I wrote to the factory and sent them a picture of the guitar, they claim the guitar was dropped and most likely shipping damage even though the box was in great condition, so i guess they need to change their shipping packages.
