5.0 out of 5 stars Does just what a really good new take SHOULD do. Excellent., June 10, 2010
I wanted to alert the jazz community to this one since I caught Cunliffe's take on "Stolen Moments" (the most famous track from Oliver Nelson's original) on our local jazz station. He extends the original vibe in some unexpected ways that are very pleasing and really deep, too. I was drawn in by the different rhythyms he bring in that NEVER distract from the original mood. Instead, he builds on structures that were there all along, focusing on the mind on them and it takes the melody into some really deep new directions. It's unpretentious, muscular and it grooves. And you know what? These cats can play. So while this review doesn't take into account the entire album, I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of it...This is the kind of music we want jazz to be. I found it inspiring and Cunliffe and band deserve to be heard.

This album is a must have for jazz lovers. Congrats to Bill Cunliffe for taking it on and bringing it to the jazz scene today. Would love to hear it performed in public.
