Fine collection of blues ballads, December 24, 2002
This review is from: Blues Around Midnight (Audio CD)
The Blues is probably the only style of music in which you can put on a slow song and it could just as easily soothe your depression or throw you into one. Between this CD and the very good 3-disc set "Depression Blues", you never need go wanting for a blues slow jam tape again. At 20 songs this disc just about accomplishes what most of the "Depression Blues" set does en toto, so you really can't go wrong here. The stuff grooves, it's funky and if you're into the blues you have to get it. Pop it on when you're trying to impress a potential paramour or just when you need to get over a bit of creeping heartbreak. There's something here for every bluesy person.
If you're not into the Blues, this wouldn't be a bad place to start either, though you'll likely find it too much of a good thing for your untrained ear. Get a solid, more generalized Blues collection (say, "Superblues" vol. 1) and go from there.
