This CD is quite frankly GREAT. He is a very talented musician that moves between rock and blues like a musician well beyond his years.

This CD is good stuff. I've been able to see Shane live a couple of times, and this CD really captures the vibe at one of his shows. It's got a more uptempo first half, then a chill second half that at as a whole makes for a good mix of cool grooves and amazing vocals. Definitely add this album to your collection!!!

The Best Artist You've Never Heard!!!,

Blues for Balalaika, Vol. 1&2 is probably the most mature and well put together CD's from an unknown artist.Shane Hines is an amazing guitar player who has a voice that you can't copy if you tried. The first part of this album has songs that will never make it to radio, but will be on heavy rotation in your CD player. The second half is slower, but every song keeps you listening because they are just so damn good. I would recommend this CD to anyone, and if you are lucky enough to catch Shane Hines live... you are in for an amazing performance.

Shane's music passes the most important test of rock music - is it memorable? There is no shortage of catchy tunes on this disc, from the hip-rock "Gone," already getting airplay on local radio, to the soulful and introspective "The Thoughts I Own," to the punchy folk ballad "Mystify," the answer to every man';s questions about why he doesn't understand his significant other. But to say that Shane's music is catchy is not to say that it is in any way trite; there's an undercurrent of truth, stripped of pretention and flowery rhetoric, that marks him as a more-than-competent lyricist. Definitely worth checking out; this from one reviewer who has literally been there at the birth of a lot of East-Coast talent (Dave Matthews, Guster, and Matchbox 20, to name a few).

This is a great CD! It'll be in your CD player for months and you'll never tire of it. Part I will have you out of your chair and moving your stuff, and Part II will have you devouring the lyrics in the booklet! The guitar sound is lively and the songs are intimate. I highly recommend it!
