The ghost of Lord Buckley,
By
This review is from: The Blues of The Birth (Audio CD)
Anyone with an interest in the Beat Generation should get this disc. Horowitz's compilation of word jazz and poetry reading is not merely influenced by the Beat movement, it is the beat! Heavily inspired by the freefalling style of Lord Buckley and Lenny Bruce, Horowitz created a style familiar yet exotic, comforting yet provoking, humorous yet insightful. The first track is eerily reminiscent of Lord Buckley. A great opener for a new and exciting album. The remaining tracks are equally enjoyable. Horowitz's poetry also deserves applause, echoing the phrasing and rhetoric mastery of Kerouac and Ferlinghetti. If you're looking for a swinging cat that can rap like there's no tomorrow, either dig up the bones of Lord Buckley or get Horowitz in the house. Highly recommended!

If you've experienced a Mikhail performance or read his stuff in writing, I don't have to tell you how uniquely and satisfyingly he presents his take on anything and everything. If you haven't and you've somehow landed on this review nevertheless, consider it a gift of chance or G-d and order this recording immediately.
