5.0 out of 5 stars Remembering a Fine Composer: Reminiscences by Mary Foster Conklin
Perhaps the name Matt Dennis doesn't ring bells with most listeners, but for lovers of old films and romantic music the works captured magically on this fine CD by songstress Mary Foster Conklin will surely change that. Here are very well known works such as 'Angel Eyes', 'The Night We Called it a Day', 'Let's Get Away From It All' and eleven others that deserve equal...

3.0 out of 5 stars Dennis anyone?
this Cd is OK...(my 3 stars is really just a 2 1/2)...but why not just get Matt Dennis doing Matt Dennis? plenty of Dennis' CDs out there...and thet're all better than this one. Matt Dennis' tunes and delivery have an energy that Mz Conklin lacks. Back when, I had the good sense to go see him perform one snowy nite in a little NYC club. If you get "Matt Dennis sings Matt...

Perhaps the name Matt Dennis doesn't ring bells with most listeners, but for lovers of old films and romantic music the works captured magically on this fine CD by songstress Mary Foster Conklin will surely change that. Here are very well known works such as 'Angel Eyes', 'The Night We Called it a Day', 'Let's Get Away From It All' and eleven others that deserve equal billing performed with intelligence and moody sensitivity by Conklin and her pianist John di Martino with excellent back up from Tony Romano, Sean Smith, Ron Vincent, Joel Frahm, Leo Traversa, and David Oquendo.

Conklin has done her research well and has unearthed some of Dennis' fine tunes that have all but disappeared. She is a superb singer, able to plumb the depths of the agonies of some of these tunes and the froth of others. Her singing of the standard 'Angel Eyes' is simply one of the best performances of that fine song you'll ever hear. This is an intimate and very fine collection. Grady Harp, October 06

True confession - I love everything I've heard from MFC, and this album is no exception. Like the others it combines a singer with an excellent voice and delivery style, along with a great band, and great musical selections. To me this is cabaret music the way it ought to be done. This album, like the others, makes me wish MFC would tour more, and certainly perform more in NYC - I'd make the trip from VA to hear her - which I'm going to do one of these days...
