Editorial Reviews

Jim Rotondi strikes again with "Blues for Brother Ray," a swinging tribute to the music of his old mentor Ray Charles. Jim fondly recalls his time playing with "Mr. C" as the formative experience of his early career. Rotondi clearly shows his love for the eternal genius of Ray's music on this soulful session that also features the inspired playing of Eric Alexander on tenor sax, Peter Bernstein on guitar, Mike LeDonne on organ, and Joe Farnsworth on drums. Listen in and surely you will find that Jim Rotondi's latest release "Blues for Brother Ray" is a groovy good time that everyone can dig!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ray's crawlin' out of his grave to join you cats!, October 25, 2009

This review is from: Blues for Brother Ray (Audio CD)
First I gotta give special kudos to the incredible streaming music site that got me to discover this album. [...] not only has more channels than I've ever seen - ALL types of jazz and ALL types of other music too - but it also has a JAZZ ORGAN channel! Whether the main instrument or a sideliner, the B3 (mostly the real authentic B3, thank God in organ heaven) is on every single track. Can't get enough.
Brother Ray is my main man, and this is the most far out tribute I've ever heard to his music. Truly straight ahead jazz, a screamin, whining, sometimes sad organ...and killer saxes, a hip drummer, and great bass lines. But that damn filthy organ...WOW. Ray would definitely say, "yeah, that'll do."
Ray taught Jim well to be a perfectionist.
Thanks for waking up the music of Ray Charles.
