About the Author

Buck Brown knows that guitar playing is the "real job" his mom always told him to get. In the past 35 years, he has been fortunate to play with such great artists as Nils Lofgren, Tony Trischka, Stacy Phillips, Dave Hamburger, Robert Lee Castleman, Mark Egan and all of the incredible teachers at the National Guitar Workshop (where he taught from 1984 to 1991). Buck has written ten National Guitar Workshop publications (under the name Robert Brown) including Chord Connections, his masterwork on guitar harmony. As a composer, he has written music for innumerable episodes of America's Most Wanted, has won an Emmy Award in Cleveland, a Bronze Medal at the New York Film Festival and has been nominated twice for Helen Hayes Awards in Musical Theatre. When he is not on the road, Buck plays and teaches in Washington, D.C., is married to the fabulous chanteuse Rebecca Davis, lives with three dogs, bats right, throws right and plays loud.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good blues chops, but doesn't really apply any teachings, August 1, 2005
This review is from: Blues Chops for Guitar (Paperback)
I found this book to be very good all round book with regards to blues techniques and chops, however thought that it could have been a little more informative with regards to demonstrating how some of the phrases could be tied together.

I know that this comes back to the individual to experiment with different phrasing combinations - but this book seems to be filled with a lot of very short phrases, repeated in various keys on the fretboard. Some longer phrasing examples would have been more useful to me, especially with regards to ammo for my trick bag.

I think this book is excellent if looking to improve your technique, not so great if you are looking to see how to make those skills sing once learned.
I would however like to point out that the "Rock Chops Book" was an excellent book for both technique and phrasing - and perhaps I was just expecting too much based on the quality of that book.
