5.0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong
We have most of the Blue's Clues tapes, and this is easily one of my favorites. Not my son's, mine. He loves virtually all of them, so I tend to see them a lot and develop my own preferences. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not Much ASL
This is a good video for Blues Clues fans. However, it is billed as having ASL content, which I actually found to be minimal.

We have most of the Blue's Clues tapes, and this is easily one of my favorites. Not my son's, mine. He loves virtually all of them, so I tend to see them a lot and develop my own preferences. This one, perhaps because of the heavy interspercing of ASL I find less likely to drive me up a tree if I end up having to watch it with my kids. My son knows most of the signs in the tape by now, and will actually use them in other situations. He's also starting to get the idea of maps. If you feel you should watch TV with your youngster and want something that's less drivel than standard preschool fair, Blue's Clues and Bear in the Big Blue House would be my highest recommendations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Signing Turns Blue, February 27, 2001
By
This review is from: Blue's Clues - All Kinds of Signs [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My son, at nearly 2 years of age, has been using sign language for one year. He's not deaf, and we've encouraged his communication skills through the incorporation of American Sign Language.

Now, as his second birthday looms near, he's taken on a liking for Blue's Clues. What a find this video was! I think it really helps my son to see cartoon characters using sign language. Signs really are a natural extension of our communication with our children (many people - and even babies - naturally gesture when they talk), and it's wonderful to see popular shows like Blue's Clues encouraging this.

This video does not claim to teach ASL so don't buy it expecting a sign language lesson. However, they do use signs throughout the first episode and each episode is bookended by Marlee Maitlin, who is a well-known deaf actress. I think it's great as a supplement to your current signing activities as well as a way for your child to see others using signs.

Even if your child isn't signing already, this video is sure to get him or her off to a great start. It's never too late to learn.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a lot of ASL, July 20, 2004
This review is from: Blue's Clues - All Kinds of Signs [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this tape primarily for the sign language. While Marlee Matlin is on for a few seconds and Steve signs a bit, the focus is very much on directional signs, NOT sign language. These are good Blue's episodes, we love Blue, but for learning to sign......keep looking.

4.0 out of 5 stars More on ASL for kids, January 15, 2005
This review is from: Blue's Clues - All Kinds of Signs [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is an entertaining video. My son loves Blue's Clues...but not until he was about 2 yrs old. Earlier, he did not "get it" in terms of "finding a paw print". Another great Blue's episode that I am not sure is still out is "ABCs & 123s". At 25 months, I swear my son understands how READING works from this video! The counting part is really good too. My son tries to count everything! However, for those of you looking for more ASL sign language for kids, the BEST by far, are the series called Signing Times. website is www.signingtime.com There are six videos/DVDs in the series that increase in complication. The first one is "basic" signs like milk, eat, apple, more, etc. I started showing this to my son at 8 months and he was signing to ME from the highchair at 10 months. Then, I added the next volume(please, thank you, share, etc) to his viewing and so on. At 25 months, he knows over 50 signs and uses them. He sometimes can't make the sign exactly right with his hands...but,I know what he means to say and that is the goal (increased communication between you)! I must say, I've learned all the signs myself! Her style of teaching is entertaining and it sinks in! www.signingtime.com check it out.

There is not a lot of SIGNING - more talking and running around, better for just entertainment. However, my 22 mo. old likes it, but I would rather have her LEARNING while being entertained, after that IS why I bought the video, right? "Talking Hands" is MUCH better.

2.0 out of 5 stars Expected More Signing, October 5, 2005
This review is from: Blue's Clues - All Kinds of Signs [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My daughter is deaf and loves watching blue's clue, so I was some what disappointed with the limited signing. There was a small protion of consistent signing during story time, but that was a small segment.

I was expecting signing throughout the entire tape.

My 3 yr. old has loved Blues Clues for awhile now. I have been waiting for a new video to come out, and finally it has. As usual it has everything you expect from Blues Clues. It helps to teach and gets children thinking. My son has even picked up some sign language form watching this video. It also teaches about following directions. Recommended for any Blues Clues fan.
