3.0 out of 5 stars Needs to pick up the pace a bit
What's perfect about Blue's Clues episodes that air on Nickelodeon (and CBS on Saturday mornings) is that in 25 minutes each show crams in all the things that kids love about it: the opening ("Hi out there. . ."), the "To Play Blue's Clues" song, finding the first clue, interacting with the other 'housemates', finding the second clue, getting the mail,...

I bought this DVD about a month before my son's 2nd birthday. From day 1 he loved it. He doesn't much care for Joe so I bought this is Blue's Clues Classic clues (wich he's only watched a few times). This is his absolute FAVORITE movie (he's watching it right now as we speak). My son's a High Energy child and rarely sits still to watch tv. He sits through this ENTIRE movie from beginning to end with very little movement (sometimes I want to put a mirror under his nose to make sure he's still breathing, LOL) He adores the music and the basic Blue's Clues plot. He loves screaming A CLUE A CLUE! and of course the music. His favorite is "The Show" song wich he sings everytime it comes on. I like the Ray Charles part the best and my son enjoys it to, he just says "Hey Hey, shooba dee day. Bee bop bay, hey hey. I can't tell where it comes from but when you sing SING sing there it is. The reason i love that is because MY SON DOESN'T TALK ALOT, LOL. He CAN talk he just chooses not to most of the time (wich is why I'm grateful for ASL but that's another review). This movie was worth every penny and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. Money well spent!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sit in your thinking chair and enjoy, October 4, 2000
By A Customer
If your kids like Blue's Clues, they will love this movie. The story is set around a musical that Blue will perform in. There are many good musical numbers throughout, including one with the voice of Ray Charles. Although this is titled as a movie, its really just a jazzed up longer version of the tv show with much better music and a longer storyline. As I mentioned above, if your kids like Blue's Clues, this is definitely worth buying for them.

The DVD itself is okay, but since the home video cassettes for Blue's Clues are so inexpensive, I'm not sure this is a must have DVD if this is also available on video. The picture is full frame, the sound is dolby stereo but not 5.1. There are a few extras on the DVD such as music videos that are cute for the kids also.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's BIG, it's BLUE, it's MUSICAL!, January 25, 2002

(REAL NAME)
Blue's Big Musical Movie is a huge hit in our home.

Although my 6 year old is too old for it, she enjoyed Blue's Big Musical Movie quite a bit, and can still enjoy the soundtrack. My four year old thinks it’s the greatest thing ever put on tape (or DVD!). If all that weren’t enough, our 2-year-old neighbor loves it too.

Blue's Big Musical Movie is not just a long version of the TV show. It does incorporate all the familiar elements of Blue's Clues – the clues, the characters - but it elevates these things to the next level. The creators take advantage of the longer format by fleshing out the activities, and by playing out several plots simultaneously: Periwinkle's magic show, Sidetable's wish to sing, Steve's getting everything in order for the show.

Blue's Big Musical Movie features some great songs, with catchy tunes and clever lyrics. Although this is a review of the DVD, I feel obliged to mention that the soundtrack to Blue's Big Musical Movie is one that our whole family enjoys.

There are nifty bonuses like a lesson about music featuring Ray Charles - and yes, it was very helpful in teaching my kids about notes, rhythm, and tempo.

So much product aimed at kids is either entertaining or educational, and rarely both. Blue's Big Musical Movie manages to be both. Big kudos to the people behind this exceptionally good kids movie, and to Steve who is so excellent in his role.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laughier and Loonier than the TV episodes, October 26, 2000
This review is from: Blue's Clues - Blue's Big Musical Movie [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie is a full-length production, basically remaining true to the TV show, but in an expanded format. The plot centers around the Blue's Clues cast prepare a musical production. In many ways this adaptation of TV show also follows the rhythm of a 'real' musical. The score is quite diverse in musical style, with lots of choruses with the whole cast joining in. Even my infant daughter joined in her sister's delight over this one (which she doesn't share on the 'regular' TV show episodes).

There is a great segment on composing and reading musical notes including rhythm, tone, etc. I rather expected my 4 y. o. daughter to start fidgeting during this part, but she was transfixed and understood the basic concepts right away. Whatever Steve & Blue's appeal is to toddlers & pre-schoolers - maybe just the pure silliness - it is upped exponentially in this movie. From Mom's perspective it has tremendous educational and entertainment appeal - true to and leveraging the basics of the TV episodes. A definite MUST HAVE for Blues' fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny and a little sad, November 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Blue's Clues - Blue's Big Musical Movie [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My 17 month-old loves Blue, and he loves catchy music, so this movie really captures his interest. As a parent, I am glad we bought this movie because it is more sophisticated and less hokey than a lot of children's programs (i.e., Teletubbies and Barney) and so easier to watch over and over again, but it is still on a level that my young son can enjoy. The score is very well written, and the plot is interesting and funny (for adults, at least; my son couldn't care less about the plot, he just likes the music and Blue's very expressive ears). The one and only issue I have with this movie is that the plot includes several rather sad turns of events. At some point, everyone seems to be disappointed about something, or have their feelings hurt, or be party to a misunderstanding. Of course, that just makes it that much happier when everything works out in the end. And, for older kids, seeing Blue and Side Table Drawer and Periwinkle unhappy may teach empathy for others, and provide motivation to interact with the movie to try to help solve the problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars another winner from a great team, November 5, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Steve, Blue and their friends are putting on a show -- but where is Steve? He's in bed, still sleeping! Thus begins the day of the Big Musical -- an expanded 78-minute show in which Steve finds three clues that let him know who Blue wants as a singing partner, Periwinkle gets frustrated trying to audition for the show, and bashful Sidetable Drawer struggles to overcome her shyness so she can join the cast, among other ongoing activities on the first DVD release from the Blue's Clues team.

Our two-year old, amazingly, sat through the entire movie -- even the relatively lengthy visit with G-Clef and the notes (played winningly by Ray Charles and the Persuasions) as they discussed the composition of a song using notes, rhythm, tempo and, of course, soul.

DVD extras: two music videos: 'I Can Be Anything That I Want To Be' and 'There It Is'; 'Who Am I?', a game to try and guess Blue's Clues characters given three clues; two DVD-ROM games; and a wonderful 16 minute backstage tour, meeting the talented team behind this great show.

I thought about giving this disk 4 stars -- my PowerMac met all the system requirements for playing the two DVD games, but still they wouldn't run -- however, the movie is so good and the backstage tour so interesting that I couldn't bring myself to give this product anything less than a 5 star rating.

Another great job by the Blue's Clues team.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best yet!, October 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Blue's Clues - Blue's Big Musical Movie [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is the second and third copies I am buying of this video. Steve Burns and the Blue's Clues company of artists are at their best. This is truly a "movie", complete with a score...including "Snail" cruising across the backyard stage on a skateboard, making her singing debut. We also meet the newest neighbor, Periwinkle, the cat. There are gentle lessons in self esteem, the basics of reading music. Ray Charles' voice overs and music are a special treat. In my opinion....this is a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars First video that my kid loves, December 10, 2000
Hi

My son has almost 2 years old and, because this movie, loves blue's clues program , no other character (barney, teletubies, etc..) has caused that impact (he just sees blue, no other program).

Because the movie he started to look the TV show, but the movie is still his favorite, it has excellent music ( I must admit I like it) and it has a good plot.

My wife and I had seen this movie zillions of times (of course with our son) but, We still like it (we enjoy how to son laugh ans sing). I recommend it..... and I hope soon there will be a Blues clues 2.

Hope it helps

5.0 out of 5 stars Definite Oscar for Steve Burns..., January 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Blue's Clues - Blue's Big Musical Movie [VHS] (VHS Tape)
What can I say...I have two wild boys...4 and 2...they are both blue's clues addicts. We try to control their addiction through normal means...other activities, pre-school, friends, the park...but their favorite entertainment in the world (right now) is the blue's clues movie...I must admit...this is the best piece of kids' entertainment that I've seen...it is funny, has good music, it has a plot, it is educational, it is action packed...and it is Blue's Clues. I strongly recommend it. And enjoy it while you can because the great Steve Burns is leaving the show...this is his Oscar winning performance...
