Steve, It's a "Classic Clue!" Right There!,
By George Buttner "Agent0042" (Dayton, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Blue's Clues - Classic Clues [VHS] (VHS Tape)
"Classic Clues" is truly classic in that the episodes on it are never-before-seen episodes featuring Steve, the classic host of the show before his "brother," Joe, took over in the fifth season. Most of the other favorite characters are around too, all as delighful as always.Viewers who were turned off by the seemingly rushed format of the school activities depicted in "Blue Takes You to School" will delight in Blue's pretend school in "Blue's School." Even though the episode is the same length as any other episode, everything just seems a lot less rushed and more with a sense of fun. "Something to Do Blue" features a fairly decent song that previously could only be heard on one of the "Blue's Clues" albums. It also teaches neat ways for beating boredom by encouraging imagination. Steve is in fine form in both of these "lost" episodes featured on this video. Twice he's seen with a guitar, although that doesn't work out quite as he would probably like! His interactions with Pawprint are as fun as ever and he's even up to his old, classic, sock puppet mischief. The only thing that I should post a caution about is that the video, like other such videos, contains about ten minutes of promos at the very beginning for pretty much every current Nick Jr. show and related DVDs and videos. So unless that actually holds you or your kids' interest, I would recommend fast-forwarding at the start by about that amount and remembering to rewind only back to the point. All-in-all, this is an important video (or DVD, should you choose that option) that shouldn't be missed by fans of the show, especially since these episodes will probably never be aired on television.

Steve is the Best,
This review is from: Blue's Clues - Classic Clues (DVD)
My son who is almost two years old is in love with Blue and with Steve. I can't rate this DVD high enough. Steve is so genuine and engaging that he is totally convincing in the role. (We also have one of the newer videos with Joe, and my son covers his eyes and cries whenever Joe is on.) These original, "Classic" Blue's Clues are sheer perfection. I feel like my son is actually being exposed to something valuable and educational when he watches these. And he clearly finds them highly entertaining. I can not recommend Blue's Room (complete nonscence) or the newer Blue's Clues with Joe (they added bells and whistles to the format and it is not as good). I agree completely with the other reviewer who stated that they should release more episodes of the original Blue's Clues with Steve as the host.

Steve does it again,

The DVD contains 2 never before seen on TV episodes and 2 bonus episodes that are not on the VHS. These episodes have inspired my son to get clean socks out of his sock drawer and make sock puppets. There are at least 2 episodes that involve sock puppets. He thinks sock puppets are the funniest thing around, so after watching an episode, you could do a craft with your child and make sock puppets. THere is a pizza making episode. There is also an episode that hinted that Steves character was leaving "you know, one day I want to go to COLLEGE!" A little upset that that one never aired. anyway, this one is longer than any of the VHS'. It's 2 hrs. long and it has an option so you don't have to watch the annoying coming attractions.

Buuuuue! Buuuuue!,
By M. Dutton "music freak" (Ol' Virginny, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blue's Clues - Classic Clues (DVD)
I bought this DVD 5 months ago for our then 19 month old son. It's become the most requested video in our home and I'm constantly bombarded with chants of "Buuue!Buuue!Buuue!" at any given hour of the day. All four of the episodes contained in this DVD are clever, engaging and very entertaining, not to mention filled with fun little ditties that stick in your head. My wife and I are both finding that we now sing "On The Bus" (I'm lookin' out the window/ Drivin' down the street....) each time we pass one on the road; a very catchy little tune, indeed! Steve Burns is so natural and is a sheer joy to watch - wish he were still on the program. We love this video and can't recommend it enough!

My 3 year old loves this,

While visiting Nana this summer, we picked up this DVD for my 3 year old son, so that he would have something he likes to watch. It was a great hit! For a while, it was his nightly request before going to bed. After watching a couple of times, he pretended his sock was a puppet, and was thrilled when we made one together. It seems like he doesn't get tired of watching this DVD. I think he would give it a high recommendation!

Must Have for Blue Fans,
By
This review is from: Blue's Clues - Classic Clues (DVD)
This is my 2 year old daughters favorite Blue DVD. I love that it has Steve in every episode. A couple of months ago my daughter started picking up sign language from other videos. After watching this DVD just once she had picked up that Steve was signing in the first episode. He doesn't sign the entire time, but he is fairly consistent, and my daughter is learning signs that are new to her.
BTW, you also don't have to watch any previews before hand, you can choose to go right to the episodes.

all Blue Clue's videos with Steve,
By LLQ (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews

Just wanted to expand on the tip by the reviewer who suggested fast-forwarding the videos past all the beginning promo stuff: the first time I played the video and fast-forwarded to the beginning of the Blue's Clues episode, I made a note of how many minutes that was. I then made a label to stick on the end of the video that says (for example) "start at 10.50 minutes" etc. I have this on all my BC videos (and Bear in the Big Blue House, etc.) so that each time I play a kid's video, I just use my automatic FF button to get past the promo stuff and start playing the real show.

After researching all the blue's clues DVD's. This is what I was looking for. 4 Episodes with just Steve. Besides the Blue's Musical Movie this is the only DVD to my knowledge with just Steve. No offense to Joe. My 20 month old will almost watch the whole thing & the best part is it's one of those DVD's that just automatically loops. Which is great in the car. If your a Blue's Clue fan or more particularly a Steve fan then this is the DVD for you.

Great older episodes! Where can I find more Steve episodes??!,

This review is from: Blue's Clues - Classic Clues (DVD)
This is a fabulous DVD of some classic Blue's Clues. I have only recently discovered BC with my 22 month old, and he simply loves the format of this show. Steve Burns is such a natural -- his facial expressions are expressive and priceless (even winking at the parents at times) and he just grabs my little guy's attention. We love the reliable "characters" and the pawprint clues and "handy dandy notebook".
I'm not keen on too many children's shows other than Sesame Street (the ultimate classic), but this is an amazing DVD of some great BC episodes. HOWEVER, the newer episodes with Joe simply don't have the same feel. I don't blame Joe, he's just not as natural in the part and my son picks up on that. He constantly asks: "Steve? Where?" Also, the newer episodes don't follow the same tried and true format -- there are new "bells and whistles" that don't really captivate or engage the children as well. We simply want more of the older episodes with Steve! Is there ANYBODY out there who knows where I can find more episodes with Steve Burns, or which episodes they are? THANKS!

This dvd is all Steve. I know many people prefer Steve, so this is the one for you! This dvd has episodes about Blue playing school, Blue and Steve finding something to do, Rhyme time with rhyming games and lullabies and playing with sock puppets. Can't go wrong with this one if you're a Steve fan!
