Good audio quality, with just Honeyboy and his guitar,
By
This review is from: Blues, Blues: David "Honey Boy" Edwards (MP3 Download)
There are a few albums of Honeyboy backed by a band available and while they have a "fuller" sound, in my opinion Honeyboy's essence comes through best when it's just him, a guitar, and maybe a harmonica here and there. That's what you get here. All of the songs are of above average (but not excellent, based on current audio technology) audio quality. What you get is Honeyboy performing some of his better-known songs. What you don't get is information on when this was recorded and released. It says Document Records released it in 2005, but who knows when it was recorded. Honeyboy's voice is clear and strong, as is his guitar playing, leading me to suspect this was recorded sometime in the late 1970s or 1980s. It's obvious, listening to other recordings made when Honeyboy was much older. If anyone knows more about this recording, please post a review. It's worth the download because his voice and playing are so strong, and Honeyboy really gets into on some tunes. So, five star material, but from who knows when?
