4.0 out of 5 stars This will smoke your shorts
Whatever "it" is, Mountain man Leslie West still has it. There's some seriously kickin guitar work here to go along with Leslie "sound of pure evil" vocals. I don't understand why he's not getting the same exposure as other supposed guitar heroes. Labels should be beating down his door and offering him the chance to rip it up in the studio every month without fail. Blues...

Leslie pumps out some of his best guitar playing in years. Too bad it's being produced at the hands of Mike Varney. Just like Schenker's "Arachnophobiac" album, this ones sounds like the guitars are plugged straight into the same transistor amp.
Normally you can say, "Yeah, that's Leslie West playing his Les Paul Jr straight thru a Marshall stack" or "That's a...

Virgins should be dancing and the little children laughing and playing in the streets. This is the blues, baby!

5.0 out of 5 stars Boom Boom..., August 26, 2004

I know nothing about RIFFs and all that musician stuff. I just like to hear guys jammin and having a good time. I don't care if it fades out and I don't care if they play only 3 chords. All I care is that it makes my foot stomp while I'm driving and makes me smile and bop my head a bit. This guy does that to me and also produces the absolute best, most intense, foot stompin and kick a$$ version of Boom Boom I've ever heard. Thanks Leslie - keep em coming!

The best blues I have heard from anyone in years, perhaps ever. If you like blues with an attitude, you will not be disappointed. Those humbuckers do crunch and so does Leslie's voice.

Get ready for the charge of the West brigade

I just got this and am thrilled by this CD. Leslie and really still do it and it has b*alls, power, emotion, fire and just raw, hard nosed blues. My favorite.

Leslie hasn't last it a bit, his selections of songs are great. It is also great for a blues guitarist to play along with.

Simple, rough, in your face great hard edged blues. If you like musicians like Alvin Lee, Johnny Winter, you will love this.

By the way, who is this nerd whose posting should be eleminated about this bozo's fade out obsession. He says the same thing about Winter, knows nothing, and he really pulls down the reviews for the great artists. If this guy had an IQ of 10, he would know that every single audio software that I know of can make his little songs end up with fadeouts, non-fadeoouts, delays, non-delays.
I would like Amazon to take this child Daniel Anderson from (Unley Park, SA Australia) and remove all his non-reviews and learn how to fade-out songs any way he likes. Audio software 1.

Jon

5.0 out of 5 stars In the Top 3 best blues works, June 28, 2004
By A Customer

After hearing this CD, you'll be asking "how could they make this CD so inexpensively?" This is w/o a doubt one of the best electric blues albums you'll ever hear. I'm a life long Clapton fan, but Eric can't touch this. I GOT THE BLUES should have been the first track. BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN has just West and his guitar showing all his true inner talent. This is a must have...

4.0 out of 5 stars still has the goods, May 9, 2006
This review is from: Blues to Die for (Audio CD)
you will like this album if you are more into the heavier mountain sound as mr. west still has the goods both vocally and guitar wise. songs like i'm ready and don't start me talking stay in a more traditional blues form with west playing some tasty guitar.i agree that some songs the guitar tone is less than stellar but overall a worthy effort.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leslie still rips, December 11, 2003

This CD is the first chance to hear material from Leslie West since I bought "Dodgin' the Dirt" a few years ago, and it is worth it. The first time I listened to "Blues to Die For", I was not that impressed, but it got way better the second time around. At first it sounded disembodied instead of tight.
I have been a fan since the Vagrants days on Long Island. As far as favorite tracks, Boom Boom, Mean Mistreater, I'm Ready. The riffs on I got the Blues are classic Leslie West.
The fat tone and volume are all there. For the Mountain fans out there - don't think twice - buy it and play it loud.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gut Punch Blues!, January 25, 2004
This review is from: Blues to Die for (Audio CD)
Leslie West has been one of my favorite Rock and Roll Guitar players for years. I have always felt that he is at his best when playing the blues. The Best tune off Mountain's Mystic Fire was "Better Off with the Blues". This offering is loaded with the blues ala Uncle Lesle. The Doors' Crawling Kingsnake takes on a completely different feel with Leslie's guitar taking center stage. Hooker's "Boom Boom" is tailored made for West. A friend of mine told me that upon hearing this CD for the first time that it would be perfect for playing around the campfire with plenty of liquid refreshments at hand and a chance to stomp at will. I have to concur-Turn it up and rock out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing to hear Leslie in fine form., February 24, 2004

What a novel idea here. The great Leslie West knocking off 11 blues standards like only he can. I first listened to this CD on the drive home from work and I didn't want to get out of the car when I got there. At last LW is not put upon to create new music and lyrics for a new release, it's already been done for him with these titles and he's free to let it rip. No wories here about ending up with another cheesey offering such as his last effort "Sea Of Fire." The concept behind this CD is simple and satisfying and I've enjoyed this more than any Mountain or solo effort since the end of the Pappalardi era. Leslie shines with crunching, biting tone enveloping his tasteful riffs. His band on this is smooth and unubtrusive and a real enjojment to listen to as they grind out the backing melodies. I wish he would take this group on the road and hang up the tired Mountain nostalgia act for awhile.

This is The Blues baby.

If your Mom and Dad brought you to the concert now is the time to tell them to go on home 'cuz we gonna kick out the jams, disturb your mind and kick your ass with The Blues.

Long-neck bottles, sly-looking women, cars that go faster than they look - and Leslie West is eyeballing your mama - so you better ante up and keep your cards close to your vest 'cuz - Baby! ...this IS the blooze!
