5.0 out of 5 stars !, December 29, 1999
This review is from: Blues for Elvis (Audio CD)
The King of Blues covers the King of Rock and Roll! It just doesn't get much cooler than this. Albert King (of whom i've been a fan for many years) reworks Elvis (of whom I've also been a fan for many years) with style and taste. He does it Albert King's way but doesn't ruin Elvis songs. Cover versions are rarely as good as the originals but King's stax blues sound works well. All and all this cd is really neat and you should listen to it :-)

It may not sound interesting to hear Albert King do the Elvis Presley hits (he didn't even choose to do it, he was forced by Stax Records) but in the end he gives great versions of all these songs.
I bought it one day because I found it in a record store and I'm a big Elvis fan. I thought I would sell it on e-bay if I didn't like it but since then it's always in the jukebox CD player. I just love this CD because Albert King does not replicate the same sound, he turns it into real blues songs and makes the songs his own. For once, it's not someone trying to sing like the King because noone can sing like him, there's no use trying.
So I'm sure Albert King, even if he didn't want to record all these songs in the beginning, enjoyed himself singing them as you can hear on the record. And in the same manner, I didn't believe in this record at first but now I can't live without it.
I wish Elvis had done an Albert King cover album.

COVER VERSIONS OF ELVIS SONGS AS DONE BY ALBERT KING ON THE STAX LABEL BACK IN THE 1970'S, THIS IS A GREAT ALBUM, IF YOU LIKE THE MUSIC OF ELVIS PRESLEY OR ALBERT KING, YOU WILL DEFINITELY ENJOY LISTENING TO THIS ONE. ALBERT PLAYS SOME PRETTY MEAN GUITAR, PARTICULARLY ON "THAT'S ALRIGHT, MAMA".

I found this album to be quite interesting but I am a Albert King Die hard fan. If you like Elvis and the Blues this album will be good for you.
