Good reference book for intermediate to advanced players,
By
This review is from: The Blues Fake Book (Plastic Comb)
This is a good book for players who already have a good grasp of the blues. It's a great reference book for those songs that don't follow standard blues chord progressions. If you're just starting to learn the blues, it's still a good buy, however, it won't teach you how to play the blues or how to get the sound you hear on recorded versions of the songs. It's basically lyrics and chord progressions - that's it. If that's all your expecting, you should be happy with it.

One of the most complete blues songlists ever assembled!,
By David (U.S.A.) - See all my reviews

Any fan of the blues will find this to be a wonderful songbnook. A fake book can be used by a variety of musicians, guitarists, keyboard players, and pianists. They all "fake it" from the melodies and chords of the song. Singers love fake books as well... allowing them to carry an enormous amount of lyrics to gigs. This book has many "never before published" songs along with the standard "must have" blues tunes. What a great fake book!!!

This is a large collections of blues songs. Easy to read, good arrangements. My only reservation is that it didn't contain a lot of blues tunes that are popular, or are the real classics. That may be the result of copyright issues; may be too expensive for the publisher to provide the most popular songs.

Blues Fake Book,

Hal Leonard Fake Books deliver exactly what the cover says and the Blues Fake Book is a good example. The layout is unfailingly clear with a sensible font. The addition of verses is a welcome bonus in comparison to some of the competition. The appendix of songs grouped by artist is very useful for quickly compiling related music.
Whilst there is clearly value for money when considering the extensive content, one has to expect a few dislikes - but this is just personal taste - and one man's meat etc. A thoroughly recommendable publication for practical use and study.

I like it !
Such a deal ! Soooo many Blues Tunes for so little... around 6-cents a tune... Nice ! The index is great... alphabetical by tune name and another list... by artist. Very nice! I am a big Blues fan and I play a Les Paul electric & an old banged-up 1938 May Bell acoustic 'SLIDE' (rare) guitar that i bought for $15 at a garage sale. A 2-inch long piece of copper plumbing pipe for my 'SLIDE'.... So Nice ! Having Geezer fun.

Good Fake Book,
This review is from: The Blues Fake Book (Plastic Comb)
Review from Seoul Korea.
I love a blues and jazz music. There are plenty of real books or fake books for a jazz, but not for a blues. I seached to look for a real book for a blues. There were several books. This book includes many modern tunes, I like it. A minor disadvantage is that the size is quite big. Reduction is possible, and would be more convenient to carry in my gig bag. Good book!

The book contains timeless classic Blues in the typical Fake Book format. For the intermediate or advanced player it provides sufficient selections for you to work into any performance. For the beginner it provides simple yet elegant introduction to the blues. Easy to read, easy to use, and well worth the money.

The Blues Fake Book needs to be an essential part of any musicians library. No frills, no slants in one direction or another, this book gives you a solid foundation in the blues. Ranging from Robert Johnson to Clapton and beyond, this will give you an avenue of variety from which to build your musical knowledge of the blues. I'm not crazy about a few of the musical keys selected for some of he songs, but that's more personal choice than anything else. The overall basic arrangements are clear and solid. This book does not offer tab's of popular arrangements. Indeed, there are no tabs at all, and that is a good thing. The Blues Fake Book gives you the foundations to build using your own arrangements and imagination. It's worth the investment.
