5.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners
A really good video for people aspiring to learn blues rhythm and pentatonic scale. Keith is loud and clear and gives you the fundamentals of blues scales. You get tips on 'solo' and learn a few licks as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I found part one somewhat valuable/ part two was worthless. I need the tablature or better closeups of the neck.

Furthermore, when he's talking about "triads" and other music talk, he could just as well be speaking Greek.

This series doesn't fully utilize the power of video, IMHO.

I found the Song Xpress video series to be far more helpful, and more...

5.0 out of 5 stars Blues Guitar step one, January 3, 2001
This review is from: Blues Guitar, Step One with Keith Wyatt [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is an outstanding video for [the price]. Keith Wyatt is not only an excellent blues guitarist he is an excellent teacher. The video details shuffle rhythm and awesome rhythmic variations that actually make it interesting to play rhythm guitar. The video also goes into a segment on how to construct a 12 bar blues solo and blues phrasing. I have recommend this video as well as step two of this series to all my friends who play not only blues guitar but rock, jazz and country. It is just that solid of a video. On a side note I have purchased videos from many other guitarists and unfortunately many of them seem impressed with themselves or are great guitarists but crummy teachers, this series is both informative and humorous. More than worth twice the money. I have been playing guitar for over 20 years and found a wealth of information contained in this video.

Keith is a brilliant guitarist and an exceptional instructor, but i could really use some tab on the call and response portion of the soloing segment, i know that defeats the intent of call and response but hell throw me a bone here, i've been playing for 6 months and after 3 weeks of rewinding the tape i have only picked up 4 of the licks, if you are a beginner you will learn alot and have alot of work cut out for you, if you are an intermediate you will be able to pick up some valuable techniques, it is worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro to Blues Guitar, September 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Blues Guitar, Step One with Keith Wyatt [VHS] (VHS Tape)
For someone who has a good handle on guitar basics, this is an excellent intro to blues guitar. Although it's only 40 minutes long, it's packed with tips and techniques, rhythm and lead. Each time I've watched it, I've picked up something new, and after 3-4 times, I was 'playing with the band'.

I have been playing guitar for 35+ years and find this to be an outstanding teaching and motivating program. Along with my guitar picking kids and grandkids, I will be reviewing this tape on a regular basis. Keith Wyatt is an outstanding guitar teacher and demonstrates not only technique, he makes the "sound" of the blues something to strive for. I highly recommend this for folks who have a pretty good understanding and skill of playing basic guitar. Buy Step one and two together, you will not regret it.

I found the Song Xpress video series to be far more helpful, and more visual. I just wish they would produce some new ones, especially on the blues.
