Biography

The American blues musician Muddy Waters was born McKinley Morganfield in Mississippi in 1913. His first recording was made for the Library of Congress who had sent famed folk music archivist Alan Lomax to the Southern States to record examples of blues songs. On hearing the record Waters realised that being a musician was an achievable dream and set his sights on a career in music. Waters moved… Read more in Amazon's Muddy Waters Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music, great liner notes too!, August 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Blues Sky (Audio CD)
The best of Muddy Waters' sessions with Johnny Winter. The liner notes give a pretty complete history of Muddy's career, and include lots of comments from the sessions that produced the music. It's funny to see Johnny Winter credited with guitar/screaming.

As for the music, it's great! Very energetic. Sounds like the guys were just having fun playing. Great slide from Muddy and Winter, piano from Pinetop Perkins, and some searing harmonica from James Cotton. Jealous-Hearted Man, Crosseyed Cat, and a ten-minute live Deep Down In Florida are my favorites.

If you like this music, Muddy's King of the Electric Blues collects most of the rest of the Johnny Winter sessions.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of the best albums I've seen., June 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Blues Sky (Audio CD)
This album not only allows you to hear some of the best Muddy Waters songs ever, but also gives you the oppertunity to hear Johnny Winters -- a great guitarist. Muddy swerved from his usual one guitar, one bass, one harmonica setup to adopt a more conventional band: two or three guitars, a bass, drums, a harmonica and other instruments. This album recreates classics such as "I Feel Like Going Home," and "Mamie," which, before, lacked a modern tone. Johnny Winters' speedy, no reverb style of playing allows Muddy's sound to remain dominant, all the while helping the music to achieve a fuller level. This album serves as a reminder of the one great blues legend: Muddy Waters. It is a classic, and I recommend it to any blues fan.
