BB is always at his Best with his friends,
By A Customer
This review is from: Blues Summit (Audio CD)
B.B. King gets no better than when he performs with the people he genuinely loves. This CD was my adult re-education in the Blues and I could not have done better. Whether it's Saturday morning baking or Sunday morning watering of the plants, I can't get it done without being on the Summit with B. B. and his great friends, Koko Taylor, Etta James and John Lee Hooker. This is the music that you makes you so deeply happy that you love music. It makes me love my friends as well. At the age of 4, my Granddaughter has made B. B. one of her friends and I will never worry that along with all the other genres she will always include Blues having fallen in love with B. B. and his Friends. This CD provides the juice for my personal cabaret.

Best blues album of the 90's,
By
This review is from: Blues Summit (Audio CD)
Its hard to find an album in these days that you could put in the same shelf as your classic Muddy, Wolf, Johnson, Sonny Boy albums. But this surely can. The album has a quelity rarely displayed on blues album today, its fresh, and a lot of these tracks are first or second takes, no shameful overdubs. Every tracks is a first class performance, something magic definitely happended in these sessions. Albert Collins just plays one of his bests recorded solos of his life. Buddy Guy sings with that passionate almost out of control energy that he displays at his best. Duets albums have become a common thing in blues today, this is the best. All of these guys are BLUES artists, no rocknrollers, pops, countrys or crooners to cash on a certain market.Great for an introduction to the blues as well.

Call It Stormy Monday alone is worth the price,

B.B. King is the greatest living bluesman and Albert Collins was one of the best blues guitarists in the world. Put the two together and you have pure magic. Blues Summit is a great album, but the absolute highlight is Stormy Monday with B.B. and Albert Collins. These two blues masters engage in an awesome 9-minute guitar shootout, which nothing else on the album manages to live up to. Still there's some great duets with John Lee Hooker, Robert Cray, Buddy Guy and Lowell Fulson. Great album, blues lovers will really love it.

The Summit,

One of life's greatest pleasures is listening to (and watching) a performer who truly enjoys his work. B.B. King is one of those performers. He loves the music and he loves performing and if by chance he can have a little help from his friends - why that makes everything just a little bit better. The Blues Summit is truly a remarkable cd, with BB performer duets with some of the elite of the blues performers. Every song is a pleasure. There is not a throwaway on this cd. BB does great work with the divas - Koko Taylor, Etta James, Katie Webster, Ruth Brown and Irma Thomas. Listening to Ruth Brown and BB do You're the Boss, you just know they are having a great time performing together. Call it Stormy Monday with Albert Collins is a great version of this classic song. This is a good cd for purists, those who like their blues with a little rock and someone wanting an introduction to the blues. It will put a smile on your face.

Awesome, nearly flawless,

I bought this album 4 years after it's release (I was 10 years old), and listened the hell out of the first song, then put it down and didn't touch it until a few months ago. Now, a full-fledged Blues fan who can finally relate to what the Blues is and respect the guitar playing, I listened to this album and was blown away. Some of the songs still aren't all that good to me today (Since I Met You Baby, Somehting You Got, You're The Boss) and the rest are utterly awesome, the best track being I Gotta Move Outta This Neighborhood/Nobody Loves Me But My Mother. The solos on the song are ... great, and it's got some classic B.B. humor as well. A close second is Stormy Monday, with the trademark great solo (can he write a bad one?) and Blues lyrics. The rest of the album plays great with any Blues surroundings (Playin' With My Friends-backyard BBQ, and any other song-highway, jailhouse, empty bed, bottom of whiskey glass...). B.B. King will always be remembered for the Blues. This album only furthers his status as the king of the Blues...

I agree w/ those who've said that this is one of BB King's best CD's. His duet partners truly are the 'real deal' when it comes to blues artists. Unfortunately, too many of them have passed on since this was recorded 15 years ago: Lowell Fulson, Albert Collins, John Lee Hooker, Katie Webster, and the recently departed Ruth Brown. Luckily, we have this recording to remind us just how good they all were. I recently found the DVD version in my local library & enjoyed seeing that also.

One of the best blues recordings of all time,
By A Customer
This review is from: Blues Summit (Audio CD)
This is, with Clapton's "From The Cradle", the best blues album of the nineties. We already know the songs, but who cares! The songs are ALIVE in this record: B.B. plays really good guitar from the heart with no flashiness and all the guest musicians seem to be very pleased playing with their beloved master or friend. His singing is, as always, incredible... To me, this album is B.B.King's best, together with the legendary "Live at The Regal"

This is a superb B.B.'s album, really one of the bests from 90's,and we can recognize a great performance of B.B. King, not only with his "Lucille",but still yet with his raucous loudly great vocal tunes, like never before!!Great album, great participations, with the gem of the blues. The presences here are enriched with the performances of the legendary "Memphis Horns"and Kim Wilsom from "The Fabulous Thunderbirds".This is an album to be at a special place at any bluesfans collections!I really recomend!

Brings out the best of all the pairings.,

This review is from: Blues Summit (Audio CD)
I came to this album late, so I was hesitant at first. King loves playing with other people, but the results have always been a markedly mixed bag. Fans mostly want hardcore blues and his guests haven't always been the type of artist to drive that theme home.
This album, by contrast, captures King with other bluesmakers and the results are stunning. They bring out the best parts of him and he doesn't have to hold anything back or modify it to fit in someone who doesn't have the history. And what a line-up! Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Etta James, John Lee Hooker...the list goes on. If you're tired of the albums with pop or rock stars, this one's for you.

A Blues Event!,

This aptly-titled collection of blues duets between BB and his fellow blues greats is nothing less than a milestone in recorded sound, living history really. But don't put this CD up on blocks in your garage, listen to it again and again and wear it out! You'll be a better person for it. Your neighbors will wonder why you've suddenly decided to smile all the time. Even telemarketers will feel good as you pleasantly tell them 'no thank you'! This fine set of tunes is better than...well, better than lotsa other things, I can tell you that. You must own this CD. You must own this CD....
