Why oh Why do people keep bringing up SRV whenever commenting on Indigenous. Stevie was Stevie and Mato is Mato! In my honest opinion Mato is a purest in his guitar playing style and although similar to the Texas blues sound, he adds another deminsion to blues rock that no one before him has been able to come close to, inluding SRV. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
VERY boring, except for the last two tracks not listed on the cover. They're very good and show what Mato can do. I wish I could find an entire DVD that shows off what the Experience Hendrix DVD showed of him, though.

The BIG sound that Indigenous developes is something that must be experienced to believe. It's like listening to Jimmy Hendrix's guitar licks with Robert Crays heartfelt soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars First Great Band for the New Millenium, March 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Blues This Morning (Audio CD)
This band ranks with Jimi Hendrix, Cream, SRV, and Santana. This is no flash-in-the-pan one album artist, like we see so many of these days (will anybody know who Semisonic is two years from now?). This is a band for the ages, like Hendrix, The Beatles, The Who.... "Blues This Morning" is a limited edition - almost all sold out I hear - get it while you can - the extra songs (including two hidden tracks) are great and a very cool supplement to the outstanding, extraordinary main release "Things We Do" - which is the best record released in many, many years. The hidden tracks are from the "Live at Pachyderm" radio show - and show clearly, without question, that Mato Nanji is the finest living guitarist - the guitar in his hands is not merely an instrument, but seemingly an extension of his soul...I am in awe, and I can't stop listening.

These guys are awesome - as a plugged-in blues fan, you have to love the smooth rhythm and rocking solos... a must have as well as Things You Do.

5.0 out of 5 stars One great band awesome music, June 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Blues This Morning (Audio CD)
I have listened to both their cd's and they are fantastic. I like music from the 60's and 70's and there is not much new music that I care for, but when I heard one of the songs on the radio I had to find out who this band was. I have not been turned on by music like this in a long time. I was fortunate to see them live with a crowd of less than 1000, it was great. This music is the best I have heard in some time. If you like the "underground" type of music that originated in the 60's you will love Indigenous-Buy it!!

This CD has 2 smoking hidden tracks. Holdin' out and Red House recorded live at Pachyderm Studios. Those two tracks alone make the CD worthwhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray Vaughn, now to Mato Nanji ?, August 21, 1999
By
This review is from: Blues This Morning (Audio CD)
Stevie Ray Vaughn used to feel that at times Jimi Hendrix was playing through him, and I could definately feel that too. Now comes Mato Nanji of Indigenous. I have waited for years, since 1990, for a real sucessor to Stevie and have not heard a one. Not lame pretenders like Johnny Lang and his band of juvenile wannabes. Only now is there a guitar slinger who MAY be able to take up the mantle. Lets hope that for the SRV devotees that the mantle has been passed on( most likely by Stevie Ray himself)to the,so far, capable hands(and fingers) of Mato Nanji. Just as it was passed on from Jimi to Stevie. God knows that nine years waiting has been long enough!!

This review is from: Blues This Morning (Audio CD)
Every decade has special musical groups. This is one for the guitar/blues/rock fans. It's almost magic and one can only hope for more. This group is just as good live which is also incredible. I'd even buy their cover of Pat Boone songs.
