Excellent CD - Would recommend this Jewel to any jazz or blues fan, October 14, 2005
This review is from: Bluesiana Triangle (Audio CD)
This group of musicians has a sound all their own, bluesy jazz with that funky New Orleans touch. The late Art Blakey is acknowledged as one of the best modern jazz drummers. With his beat comes also David "Fathead" Newman on sax and Dr John on piano with an incredible laid back sound laced with New Orleans voodoo heritage. Shoo Fly is worth the price of admission alone. This is a Must Have Musical Gem!

Amazon's track credits misleading, December 6, 2008
This review is from: Bluesiana Triangle (Audio CD)
Amazon has inexplicably added songwriters to the artists in the track listing, making it appear they perform on the CD, which they do not necessarily.
The performers on this superb classic are Dr. John (Mac Rebennack) on piano, Hammond organ, guitar, and vocals; Art Blakey on drums and vocals (and piano on "For All We Know"); David "Fathead" Newman on saxophones and flute (and backup vocals on "Shoo Fly"); Essiet Okon Essiet on bass (and backup vocals on "Shoo Fly"); and Joe Bonadio on percussion (and drums on "For all We Know").
Produced by Joe Ferry and released in 1990, this CD is a heavenly classic. I came upon an additional one I am listing for sale here, but they'll have to pry my personal copy from my cold, dead hands. :)

Timeless, underappreciated classic, December 19, 2008
This review is from: Bluesiana Triangle (Audio CD)
I heard this group's version of "For all we know" on the radio near Christmas in 1992 and got the cd a few weeks later. It was an introduction to Art Blakely and David Newman for me. "Shoo Fly" is awesome as well, but to have this cd in your collection is to have a stew of great musicians having a good time making a classic record.
To this day I am surprised that more people don't know about this gem.
