A Very Enjoyable Read,
By Flower Girl (MN, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bluestocking (Paperback)
I would rate this book a 4-1/2 stars, actually. I really enjoyed this book. The story was very nicely laid out from how Elizabeth came to the fortune to how she fought off all sorts of fortune hunters and finally came to the arms of her true love. The plot definitely wasn't anything unheard of, but Ms. Ashford's writing ability made the whole story float so easily. She could let readers feel the beauty of people (both inner and outer) without actually over-using the phrase "you are so beautiful"; she could also offer readers the feel of the chemistry between the main characters without the physical intimacy. Even the sub-characters, I found they were all unique and likable in their own way.
The only complaint I have is I was kind of disappointed about three people that Elizabeth helped the most--Belinda and Tony (her cousins), and Jane (her poor poet friend), did not show much gratitude after all Elizabeth had done for them, I thought the message was a bit unclear here. Otherwise, I strongly recommend it.

Good Book well written,
By "ketera" (Euclid, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bluestocking (Paperback)
Perhaps when she'd been penniless it might have supplied the husband she needed to support her. Now, however, she was an heiress 24 years old, bluestocking , and perfectly willing to live without marrying. But undaunted suitors soon made her aware that was not an option.
