1.0 out of 5 stars Good gadget - for awhile, but ... support?, July 27, 2006
This review is from: Bluetrek S2 Bluetooth Headset - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I have a BlueTrek headset. I've owned it for about a year-and-a-half.

I gotta admit, it's a sexy beast. Nice looking, and good battery life w/ lots of talk time. It's light on the ear and comfortable too.

At the time I bought it Bluetooth headsets were still fairly new and I got lots of questions and compliments. It changed my life and the way I used my cell phone. Getting work done while driving was a pleasure, and safety was enhanced. I was very pleased with the product.

Sounds like a rave, huh? So why the one-star rating? 'Cause Amazon doesn't provide a zero-star option. Read on.

After a few months I started getting complaints about outgoing sound quality. People said I sounded like I was 'under water'. I checked, it was true. I called my voice mail, I had my wife call me using my BlueTrek. Definitely garbled, and getting worse.

That's when I started looking into support from the manufacturer. Go ahead, google 'em. When you find your way to their home page I challenge you to find word one about a warranty. Read the manual. Stumble your way to the holding company that owns BlueTrek. No joy? Surprise!!

Repeated emails using the form on their site yielded zero response. Telephone calls to vendors were equally fruitless. Some vendors had discontinued the brand for reasons related to the lack of support from the manufacturer - they were tired of fielding angry calls from buyers of the brand.

One vendor includes a PROMINENTLY PLACED disclaimer on the page advertising the S2 in which they specifically warn potential buyers that they are NOT liable for warranty claims, and that any issue which may arise after sale must be handled by the manufacturer - i.e. you're on your own, sucker. Good luck with that. One wonders what prompted a vendor to place such a caveat.

Of course, your mileage may vary, but as far as I'm concerned I choose to support businesses that have a reputation for striving to make their customers happy (ferinstance Amazon) as opposed to those who don't. I encourage others to do likewise. Consumers CAN affect corporate behavior by voting with their dollars. Join us.

Want an indication of the real value of BlueTrek products? Check eBay - if you have an eccount you can see what they actually sell for by viewing 'completed' auctions.

Like I said, it was a good gadget for a few months. And the price was right ... but maybe that was the problem. You've been warned. Good luck.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bluetrek S2, July 7, 2006

I have had my S2 for about a year now and have been very happy with it. It is extremely comfortable and light. The talk time and standby time is very long, close to what they advertise. The quality from what people tell me on the other end is very good. Set up was quick and easy. I also have the Bluetrek G2. which is not as comfortable but works well. I prefer the S2. It fits in the ear better and does not flop around. This is one of the lightest on the market being at about 12-13 grams if I recall. You can really feel the difference from the heavier Motorolas.

What a great little device. This thing has some of the best battery life and for such a low price. Fits comfortably in my ear, doesn't feel like it's going to fall out. Looks pretty good too.
