Product Description

Bluette functions as a laundry whitener because a trace of blue in the wash will enhance white and light-colored articles, making them appear whiter and brighter. It works because of an optical illusion called irradiation. Try Bluette for whiter whites. It is safe and gentle even on delicate fabrics. Laundry bluing is added to the deterget at the start of the wash cycle - unlike otehr laundry products that are added during the final rinse cycle.

It keeps my whites white without yellowing.

Some think the more the better and that is not the case with using this product so read the label and follow the instructions as they say.

Since the product works better without bleach I do a prewash with bleach, then a regular wash with Bluette and detergent.

While the bluing works okay, I have to say I like Mrs. Stewart's bluing much better. Mrs. Stewart's is much more concentrated so you don't have to use very much. So even though Bluette is cheaper, a bottle of Mrs. Stewart's Bluing will last way longer. In addition, Mrs. Stewart's bottle design is much more user friendly. Bluette's bottle design is like that of a soda or beer bottle, you just tilt and pour. This is messy and not very precise. On the other hand, Mrs. Stewart's uses a "dropper" sort of mechanism so the bluing comes out little by little in a more controlled fashion. This makes it easier and cleaner to use. Finally, Bluette needs to be shaken well before each use as the bluing seems to "settle" and "separate" over time. Never had that problem with Mrs. Stewarts.

Some think the more the better and that is not the case with using this product so read the label and follow the instructions as they say. I actually use the rinse tub directions that calls for mixing 2 TBS to a quart (32 oz) of water to completely dilute it before adding to the wash. One trick i do to make sure I do not use too much is to use your common water bottle (16.9 oz) and pour exactly 1 TBS as the directions stated into the bottle (use a measuring spoon not the naked eye) then add water from the tap (do this twice). I wanted to try the leading brand, Mrs. Stewarts's, but they are charging entirely too much (can get 3 bottles of Bluette for the price of one Mrs. Stewart's on Amazon). Never tried the Stewart but I have used Bluette for most of the year and with great results. Regular washing of whites tend to dull them over time (t-shirts and socks is what I used the product on) and I have been thoroughly impressed. I am not a professional washer but I know white or dinginess when I see it and I have not seen it since I have added this product to my washing regimen. I've read how this does not do a thing for some folks and again, I am just your regular bachelor who likes his t-shirts and white socks white and this does the trick for me.

I used to use La France years ago and loved the results but since they no longer make it I was looking for an alternative....this stuff works really well...I followed the directions and dissolved it in the water before adding clothes and I noticed a significant difference in my whites and colors...its a keeper!!

This product works great! I used it with a load of bath towels, one of hand towels, and one of kitchen towels, and all came out sparkling white. Be sure to follow the directions on the bottle, though, or you might end up with blue spots on your clothes/towels/whatever that you'll have to bleach out (I learned this the hard way).

My whites were turning yellow. The more bleach the more yellow. I remembered my mother using Bluing that came in a solid form wrapped in a small fabric bag that was thrown into the machine. Well the little bag is no more but this product was delivered and used for the first time last week. A couple of ounces added to the machine as it is filling before adding the whites and NO BLEACH was all that was needed to get the Ts and bedding looking white again. It did little for the deeply yellowed pillow covers But I did not expect them to get white again.

I love this stuff. I just ran out of my supply I've carried with me since I left New York -- in 2002. Since the product works better without bleach I do a prewash with bleach, then a regular wash with Bluette and detergent. Bleach can also kill enzymes in your detergent rendering it less useful. I have socks and such that are many, many years old - and they're still bright as new. I get bragging rights.

I only use it in my bird bath and water fountain and it does a good job in that. I did try it in my rinse water of white clothes
and mixed it with water before putting in it....It was okay, but my main reason for ordering it was to keep my bird bath clean, as
I was told it would not harm the birds...It works fine for that and my water fall,
