I tried to contact the company to see if they would refund or replace the product and didn't get a response.

There are 7 categories of Plastics. Depending on the category number, the plastic container may be safe for re-use. Blue Wave Water Jug is Plastic Category #7 -- which means the chemical composition that's in the plastic doesn't fall in the other general categories. In other words, "use-at-your-own-risk" because it's not the typical kind that can be categorized. For a more comprehensive explanation of plastic categories, visit this link:
[...]

Based from what i read, plastics #2, #4, and #5 are the only ones meant to be re-used. I've reviewed 2 other bottles and they were Plastic Category #1. I think this is a step-up than those two. But nonetheless, my search for a big bottle container that's "safe" (not only BPA-free) continues...

I got the 64oz BlueWave water jug because I drink water (every day) and needed a reuseable jug. I thought I found a good solution with this item. However, less than 12 months after making my purchase of this along with BustedWaves bigger 1 gallon brother - the big jug cracked and water spilled everywhere. It busted open on the bottom seam.
Less than a month later after that incident (today), I reached for my 64 oz jug at work and got all wet noticing a familiar crack in the bottom of this jug.
I bought 3 of these jugs - and I will NOT use the 3rd. If you want a water jug for a couple of months - go ahead and buy this brand. If you want a water jug that lasts...DO NOT BUY THIS. You'll just end up with water everywhere except in the BustedWave jug.
By the way Penut, I would highly recommend against putting this flimsy jug in a dish washer. You'll just make it weaker than it already is.
The most frustrating thing about this whole experience (besides having to dry out a gallon of water all over the floor and having a wet workplace) - is that I paid money for this jug.
Unfortunately, those 2-day rave reviewers of this product will be sadly awakened to discover water all over everywhere courtesy of BustedWave. Just keep in mind, its not a matter of IF the Bluewave jug will break...but rather a matter of WHEN it will break.

Clearly this maker is suffering from inconsistent manufacturing. Let me start by saying that I'm a BIG man, I bend metal with my hands for a living, I'm no lilting flower. So when I say that I could only get the sip cap open with pliers, you should understand my full meaning.

A tale of two bottles:
bottle 1: this bluewave water jug
bottle 2: a cheapy no-name at Rite Aid.

Materials: the Rite aid bottle is make of PET, or the same as most single-use bottles. Can be easily recycled.
The BlueWave bottle is made of type 7 plastic: ie not registered and only recyclable by grinding into "plastic lumber"
Both claim to be BPA free, But I think I trust the type 1 plastic a lot more.

Sip caps: Both have the standard pull up sip cap. the Rite aid cap can be opened with my front teeth, or with two fingers. However it takes a little force to close properly. the blue wave would not open with front teeth, back teeth, two hands or any other method that someone driving a car would have at the ready. I eventually got the Bluewave bottle open with pliers. I can no open it with back teeth and a LOT of force. Also requires some force to close properly. Caps seem to made of the same material

Flexibility: the Rite Aid PET containers have a nice flex that allow you to suck great sips out of the bottle, though it will only deliver a dribble via gravity. I put some hot water in the Bluewave bottle to force through the cap in hopes it would get "lubricated" and open more easily. I had to flex the bottle to do this. I has wrinkled at one point. I can see how this would readily start to crack and give up the ghost early.

If you don't intend to use the sip cap, and just want a sealable jug of this size, ten this jug will be fine. If you're looking for a big sports bottle, then I would suggest going elsewhere.

I love these water bottles period. I never drink enough water in the day. This is better than walking around w 8 poland spring bottles and trying to rmbr how many you drank. I'm a Personal Trainer and I recommend this to all my clients. I got my one first at Linens and Things, which is now out of business. It cracked one day. I must of got it for a cheaper price bc this price was a little ridiculous. I bought 2 just to make it worth the shipping price. But come on a piece of plactic isn't all that much!!! 4 stars bc the price is a little ridiculous.

The mouthpiece of the jug was a bit worn (i don't know how) when I received it and it was poorly boxed. My jug actually said 72 ounces on it not 64. But other than that I use it every day for my "daily 8" glasses of water. It really forces you to drink all 8 glasses, not just estimate. =)

The bottle that I received only lasted for a few times before the bottom cracked
and started leaking. I too had a problem with sports top on it being hard to open.
Don't try using your teeth or you'll be heading to the Dentist office for repairs..
I didn't waste my time shipping it back because Amazon's policy seems to be that they
may charge up to $3.95 for shipping of returns so I didn't see the point.
