Book Description

The Bluffer's Guides March 1997
the Internet the Information Superhighway Cyberspace the World Wide Web-all describe the same simple idea: computers linked by telephone lines. But like any good con artist the Internet uses several names each designed to deceive in different ways. However the Internet has one highly important quality. People believe it must be interesting. Unlike normal computing which is important and useful the Internet is trivial and virtually useless. Thus its greatest appeal is to people who are themselves fascinating but trivial and useless

2.0 out of 5 stars So malicious that it's not even funny, December 14, 1999
This review is from: Bluff Your Way on the Internet (The Bluffer's Guides) (Paperback)
Since I like computer humor, I read this book, expecting to get a lot to laugh at. I sure got some. Unfortunately, most of the book is just stupid (and partially incompetent!) ranting which is anything but funny.

Reading this lampoon, I expected the author of the book to be an old frustrated jerk who sees the life passing him by and every twelve-year-old doing things he has no chance of ever learning. I was amazed to find out that Mr. Ainsley has actually been dealing a lot with computers and Internet. I wonder why he is so embittered.

If your friend has the book, go ahead and take a look at it. But it's by no means worth spending money on.
