Teacher Hearts Bluford,
By
This review is from: Bluford Series Boxed Set, Books 1-15 (Paperback)
I teach international students English in an Atlanta ex-urb. It is very difficult to get my kids engaged in reading, especially when some of them have only just arrived in this country. Finding texts that interest teens and are accessible to them is a rarity. However, one of my students raved about the Bluford Series. Since this was a child who spent much of his class time trying to listen to his IPod, I was very interested and decided to buy the 15-book boxed set. The first day that I passed the box around the class, the students spent the whole period reading. They did the same thing on the second day! My students--and I--are thrilled. THANKS!!

I bought this boxed set for my daughter's students who are in 8th grade in Harlem. They were so excited to receive these books just before winter break! They called me a left a message on my answering machine thanking me repeatedly for sending the books. My daughter reports that her students devour these books. So, I sent her another set for her students.

I read the entire series myself and then decided that I would share it with my granddaughters. I have throughly enjoyed reading these books with my students. They are able to identify with the content. Very well written for students of all ages.

I am a reading specialist at the high school level. I have found my students to enjoy reading the books in this collection. They are short books with sentences that are not too long or complex. The subjects seem to be of high interest teenage-type stories. The content is definitely a bit "rough" as you can sense from some of the titles. The subliminal message given though is good prevails over evil. Average reading level around 8 grade.
I'd recommend them as part of a classroom collection.

Teenagers Love This!,

As part of a mentoring program at a public school, I can tell you these books are the best! Our middle school librarian raves about them and has a hard time keeping them in the library. Not only that, but my mentee (a teenaged girl who hated reading at the beginning of our year together) checks these books out and READS them! I can't tell you how this new-found love for reading has changed her! Buy the series! You won't regret it.

I'm a mentor and these are great for my teenagers. They love the series and even though they are in schools most of my girls have read a few but not all and they get very excited to see the whole series.

The students at my school requested this series. They like it. It is a good transition series for teens to young adults.

The boys in my alternative class have embraced these books. This will be the third time I am replacing some of the copies. They can't wait for one person to finish so they can pass them on to the next.

I got these books for my niece and she loves them. I also love the fact that young African American children can read about people who look like them and live in the same type of neighborhoods as they do. I feel they can also relate to the issues. So, please get this for your or any child and help them to start love reading.
