We recently did a remodel, and I ran across these Blum soft closing adapters in the cabinet showroom at Home Depot. They looked good, but I was skeptical and decided to order a few from Amazon (best price) and try them out. They are GREAT! They are well designed, easy to install and easy to adjust. They worked so well that I have now installed nearly 30 of them in virtually every cabinet in the house. I have put them on everything from large pantry cabinet doors to tiny over-the-fridge cabinet doors. Because the closing action is adjustable, they work great on every door I have tried them on. I read somewhere that they only work with Blum hinges, but that clearly isn't correct, because none of my hinges are Blum hinges and they all work fine. The soft close units should come individually packaged in a plastic bag with two screws and a plastic adapter. If you have full overlay cabinet doors (doors that extend well beyond the opening) then you use the short screw and no adapter. If you have partial overlay cabinet doors (doors only slightly bigger than the opening, with most of the style between doors is exposed) then you use the plastic adapter and the long screw. I had read that you needed a flexible shaft for your drill to install these, but I wasn't clear on why it was needed? I thought maybe it was because the drill would be too long to fit into the opening of a narrow cabinet. It turns out the you really do need that flexible shaft and the reason has nothing to do with the length of your drill. It has everything to do with the diameter of your drill. For most drills, even my close-quarters drill, the centerline of the bit is too far from the closest edge of the drill to allow you to drill a straight pilot hole for the screw parallel to the top of the cabinet. You need the flexible shaft because its smaller diameter allows you to drill parallel to the top of the cabinet. I found the flexible shaft to be absolutely necessary to get these soft closers installed correctly. Finally, a tip for easy installation is to put the screw into the mounting hole of the soft closer, place the closer in position, and then use a screw driver to force the screw into the wood a tiny bit to create a pilot mark for your drill bit in exactly the right spot. It works perfectly and makes the install quick and foolproof.

I bought one of these to test out, and it works fantastically on my partial overlay cabinets. Better than every other damper I tried.
So... I was going to order 20 more from this seller, until I realized that I was going to have to pay $4.99 in S&H on EACH piece! That's outrageous! Instead, I found another online seller that was asking just $0.23 more per damper, but only $8 total in S&H for 20 pieces. So I saved myself $87.20 in total. This seller should get its act together and change their shipping costs formula.

I ordered a couple to try them out. After skeptically installing them I must admit they performed well. No more slammed doors or load noise when the doors close. Push the door and let it go, it will do the rest! The are engagemnet is adjustable. They are fairly easy to install and aren't as unsightly as I thought they would be. My only issue was trying to drill a pilot hole that was not on angle due to the tight corner. You should try to drill level if you can. Be advised screws are not included. Since the kitchen personnel(wife) likes it I will do the rest of the doors. Its a nice upgrade! Product gets 5 stars, installation 4 stars since the hole is not angled.

Installation is quick and easy. Works very well, but I did notice that you have to get the unit very secure or it will rotate about its one mounting screw.
Note: this may have been discontinued by the seller....

We live in a twin home with a common wall between us and another party. Kitchens are back to back....so cupboard door noise is a factor. We purchased 16 of the Blumotion Hinge Adapter, Compact hinges.....My husband had them installed in no time....(very simple)....Now we have peace of mind that we are not disturbing our neighbor. Matter of fact...she is ordering some too! How great and double fold is that!

Use freight charge to choose supplier,

I just purchased 15 of these Blumotion hinge adaptors and expect them to be a very good product. They should reduce the banging kitchen cabinet sound being transmitted through the wall to the adjacent room.
It's rated 1 star because of freight cost from one supplier. I used the "1-Click" purchase option so didn't see the total freight charge. The freight charge for 15 items shipped in one package (a $63 purchase) was $75; yes, $5 per item even though they were sent in one package. That totalled $138 for the 15 items. When contacted, before shipment, the supplier would not refund the purchase so I was stuck with the high cost. Check out another supplier, like Midwest Cabinet, who has reasonable freight for this specific item, allowing the total cost, delivered, for the 15 hinge adaptors to be $79 rather than $138.

I purchased 4 of these for my 1984 wooden cabinets. I recently painted them white and added new brushed nickle hinges and knobs. They looked new but lacked one thing - the soft close feature. They banged shut. Then I discovered the Blumotion Hinge Adapter. I read several review and looked at several similar products. It turnes out that the Blumtion Hinge Adapter was the perfect thing for me. We needed the spacer because of the type of doors we had. MANY, MANY thanks to the person who wrote up the instructions on how to install these and the need for a flexible shaft for the drill. These were a piece of cake to install but did not come with any instructions. We purchased the flexible shaft for the drill before we installed these and followed the instructions Mark Smith's write up. Four cabinets were done in about 10 minutes. You absolutely need the flexible shaft. Also, there are several sellers selling this item. As one person noted, CHECK THE SHIPPING!!! We checked around on Amazon and found Woodworkers Hardware had the best price for the item with shipping. I purchased 18 more for the rest of the house. My sister-in-law was here when we installed them and now she is going to buy some for her house. This could not have been a better shopping experience. A couple clicks and the items were ordered and paid for. A couple days later, they arrived and were installed.

Work great...install easily...adjust perfectly...I was skeptical so I initially only ordered a few...ordered 12 more for the rest of the kitchen and house...a real quality touch.
Never noticed how loud our cabinet doors were until I didn't hear them anymore. Everyone who goes in one of our cabinets comments on how well they work. We have both large pantry doors and small doors and these worked great on all sizes. |
