The portraits are moving, every last one. I bought it as a teaching resource for young portrait artists. The only other books I've found of this caliber are Martin Schoeller's "Close Up" and the teNeues "one2one" collection. Again, fantastic, powerful portraits in black and white. Outstanding quality. A great buy.

I don't know anything about Nigel's background and have never met the guy (hopefully I will one day)....but just by looking through the images in the book it's easy to assume he's great to work with and is the kind of guy who can get even the hardest people to soften up, the most powerful to submit, and the average looking to display amazing beauty.

And the great equipment he uses is worthy of his talent. The images are tack sharp (just look at the detail on Sean Connery's photo). Through his lens Nigel gets the viewer face-to-face with some of the most powerful and famous people in the world, subjects who are rarely seen in such a tight and up-close point of view. However he doesn't shoot everything this way so it's not at all repetitive going through the pages.

I just got his book, Sharp, which so far I really like but not nearly as much as Blunt. This book is amazing and as a photographer myself I find so much inspiration looking through his images that I can't decide whether to turn to the next page or pick up my camera. Nice work, Nigel...keep it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the portratis, November 23, 2011

Nigel Parry's portraits are my favorites. I do portraits all day long as a newspaper photographer and his work has always inspired me to reach higher. I used to always walk into the bookstore and flip through his other book "Sharp" and get inspired to do my own pictures my own way and was sad when someone bought it and took it away. The $60 was too steep for a simple news photographer to spend. Amazon, luckily sells 'em cheap. I love this book because his genius for portraits shows through in the smallest ways. The Paul Wolfowitz portrait, for example, shooting his reflection pushing the door that says push. Mr. Wolfowitz was one of the people pushing hardest for war in Iraq and getting him in a reflection with "Push" in the frame works perfectly for a story about what he was thinking at the time. The lightbulb with Ray Liotta is another great portrait. The way it lights his eye with the deep black all around is exactly the creepy I would expect from Mr. Liotta's acting. I thumb through this book every day and love it for the inspiration. Simple lighting, deep meaning.
