3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I have to admit I was somewhat dissapointed with this album.
I think I expected the remixes to be a little more dance-oriented. It's not terrible but it could have been better.

The remixed songs on this album are really great and enjoyable! Rap must be pretty "in" these days because it's sprinkled sparingly throughout the album, although the remix of the beautiful song "Free" contains more rap than there is of the song unfortunately. My two favorite songs are the remixes of "I'm All Yours" (featuring the group Souljahz) and "Live For You" which has been transformed into a fast dance-type song. Any Rachael Lampa fan should own this album as long as you don't mind the rap and being addicted!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as a dance remix or as a listening album, August 2, 2003
By
J Lee Harshbarger (Ypsilanti, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blur (Audio CD)
On Rachael Lampa's debut album, I liked half the songs--the fast ones with a beat--but those 5 songs were so good that it put her album in my top 5 of my Favorite CDs of 2001. Can you imagine my delight, then, when I read in a Christian music magazine that Rachael Lampa had a new REMIX album out?! I paid big bucks for this one because I wanted it so badly.

More of the songs on this album are from her second album, "Kaleidoscope," which I do not have, than her debut album, "Live For You," which I do have.

The mix on this album is fabulous: if you have a subwoofer, this is an album to get to make good use of your subwoofer! Killer heavy bass, top notch sound from low to high. This would sound perfectly at home on Top 40 radio, except you'll never hear it there because of her explicitly Christian lyrics.

As far as this being a remix album, the remixes are done very well. I was especially anxious to hear the remix of "Day of Freedom," the only song I know of in Christian music with Arabic influence--I was hoping they'd make a really good World Beat dance track out of it. They disappointed me in that way, not doing as much with that as they could have, but they could have done worse too, so I'm satisfied enough with it and in fact play that track more than any other, simply because I like that song the best.

While the remixes are done very well, they are more like Top 40 remixes than drive-you-to-your-feet dance remixes. Most are quite danceable, but if you're expecting an album of driving dance music, you won't find that. You will, however, find superbly mixed and performed music that would fit somewhere into any night of dance music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Go Rachael!!, June 25, 2003
This review is from: Blur (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Rachael for a while now, but this was honestly the first CD of hers that I ever bought. (The others were mostly downloaded, but purchased soon after hearing "Blur")

This songs are very nicely remixed and very enjoyable!

01. Free (Holla Back Mix) - Very nice!! Many of my friends enjoy this one because of the rap, which many younger kids and teens are into. This one is fun to dance to. 4.5/5

02. Savior Song (Sonic Overload Mix) - This is one of my favorites on the CD. I really like the way Rachael sings in this one. And the rap in it is a nice touch. 5/5

03. Brand New Life (Sunny Day Mix) - This one is okay. I guess I just don't like the kind of "breathy" vocals. The guitars are nice though. I usually skip over this one. 3.5/5

04. Day of Freedom (Mirage Remix) - I really love this one! This has always been one of my favorite songs by Rachael. It's very good. I love the guitars and strings. 5/5

05. I'm All Yours (Giraffro Phat Funk Mix) - This one features Souljahz. I really like this one. Really different from alot of the other songs on the CD, IMO. The rap is very nice. 5/5

06. For Your Love (Gravity Moon Mix) - This one is nice. A little too "sleepy" for my taste though (If that makes any sense at all.) I'd much rather listen to the original version of this song. 4/5

07. Live For You Marbella Mad Motion Mix) - Another very nice song! Live For You is another favorite Rachael song of mine, so I really enjoyed the remix. 5/5

08. Lead Me (I'll Follow) (Elevation Remix) - This another one that I usually skip over. It's a nice song, it's never been one that I've ever really enjoyed much. 3.5/5

09. A Song For You (London Daydream Mix) - Another one of my favorites! I really like the more upbeat-ish tune of this. I like love the guitars in this one. 5/5

10. Blessed (Epiphonic Remix) - I really like this song! The strings through out are very nice! However, they did take out my favorite part of the song that really shows off Rachael's amazing voice. That really disappointed me. But it's still nice.
4.5/5

Overall, I really enjoyed this CD, and have even gotten many of my friends (Who have never really enjoyed Christian music very much.) to become fans of Rachael with this CD. I recommend it to pretty much everyone who asks me what CDs they should buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surely the best remix album yet!, October 30, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Blur (Audio CD)
Remix albums never seem to do much for me. But with this one, it's different. Rachael and her mixers put some mind into this. I was not left disappointed with the songs, which is very unusual.

There is a perfect combination of hip-hop, pop, and dance on this. There was a sound with more youthful interest put into some remixes, such as "Free", "I'm All Yours", and "Savior Song".

The remixes of "Day Of Freedom" and "Live For You" shared a bit of a Middle-Eastern feel, while "Live For You" did not only share that, but also had it's own extremely fast-tempo dance effect, which was unlike "Day Of Freedom".

I must say, "Blessed" and "A Song For You" had matured so much with the remixes. Especially "A Song For You". That one sounds just as it says it does (London Day Dream). It did have more of a dreamy effect, and also an "up-beatish" sound, but not to incredibly upbeat, which is good.

The remixes of "For Your Love" and "Lead Me (I'll Follow)" never seemed to be noticed very much. Many people have expressed "For Your Love" to have to much of a "sleepy" sound for them, but not for me, I turned out to really like the sound of it, just as much, if not more than the original. "Lead Me (I'll Follow)" was much better than the original (to me). Again, it sounds just as it says it does (Elevation).

One thing I did like about this album, is that all the songs had the right remix titles for themselves. You don't really have to listen to the songs to know what they sound like, you just look at the remix title, and then use your imagination. Anyway, this is a GREAT album and you don't wanna miss it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Job, Rachael!, December 17, 2003

I was blown away when I heard this CD, it wasn't at all like I thought it would be. I have the Lampa's other 2 CDs and they're okay, but this one's definately the best one, even though the songs are just remixed. Rachael has a wonderful singing voice and these songs were totally mad for her. The first I ever heard her sing was on a Miss Teen U.S.A. pageant about 3 or 4 years ago and just was hooked. Anyway, like I said in my title, Rachael, you did a good job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dance Dance Dance!, September 17, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Blur (Audio CD)
Rachael Lampa had some great people to remix her songs. Almost all of them are just as good, if not better than the originals. Songs such as "Free (Holla Back mix)", "Savior Song (Sonic Overload)" and "I'm All Yours (Giraffro Phat Funk mix)" deliver good power groove sounds that are perfect for hip-hop dancing. The stand-out tracks include "Live For You (Marbella Mad Motion mix)", "Day Of Freedom (Mirage mix)","Lead Me (I'll Follow) (Elevation mix)" and "A Song For You (London Day Dream mix)". "Live For You (Marbella Mad Motion mix)" and "Day Of Freedom (Mirage mix)" have always been huge favorites of mine. They are very diverse in the speed, but they do somehow share similarities in the guitars, and some other things. My other two huge favorites are the last two tracks, "A Song For You (London Day Dream mix)" and "Blessed (Epiphonic mix)". As good as the originals were, you just can't beat these remixes. "Blessed (Epiphonic mix)" is very, very nice to listen to. It has wonderful strings. "A Song For You (London Day Dream mix)" is nothing but described as beyond perfect. If you thought the original version was perfect before you heard this remix, you don't know what "perfect" means. It is so refreshing to listen to. If you don't already have this CD, you must buy it. First, let me warn you that you have to like Rachael Lampa and dance music before you get this CD. Anyway, enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars YET ANOTHER REMIX CD BUT A GOOD ONE, April 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Blur (Audio CD)
Is it just me or are all artists starting to put out remix CDs? Here's yet another one. I really like Rachael Lampa though. She has such a beautiful voice and I was wondering if she had some hip hop flava in her. Some of the remixes show that side of her. I loved this CD, but I didn't give it a 5 only because there's 1 or 2 songs in there that have the techno mix that I hate so much. I guess it's because I'm so tired of techno music and whenever there's a remix, it's always a techno one. Anyway, I recommend this CD though.

This album is very well done. The production is top-notch and it just sounds really crisp and clean. The best cut on the record is the first one...FREE. What a great song! I really like the way Tedd T. changed the whole vibe of the track and the rapper did a phenomenal job of making it sound "street" without alienating Rachael's pop fans. GET THIS RECORD!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This remix album rocks!, January 5, 2003

I loved this cd by Rachael Lampa. Just as I thought her music couldn't get any better Blur is released. I recommend this album if you like Christian music and want something you can dance to. Free, Savior Song, and I'm all yours are examples of that. If you are into pop music like Christina Aguilera then Rachael Lampa is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rachael's been Remixed, February 16, 2003
This review is from: Blur (Audio CD)
With Sparrow's success with whole albums of remixed songs by a single popular artist, like ZoëGirl and Avalon, it was just a matter of time before other artists got in the act. Rachael Lampa's "Blur" is another in hopefully a long line of dance oriented CCM music.

Unfortunately you can separate the tracks into two lists: Really Slammin' and Just OK. From the opening tracks ("Free"[Holla Back Mix] and "Savior Song" [Sonic Overload]) you'd think the focus was on En Vogue or J. Lo-style R&B/Rap hybrids. And the best tracks are like that. Along with the aforementioned two, the best tunes are "I'm All Yours" [Giraffro Phat Funk Mix] feat. Souljahz, the techno-poppy "Live for You" [Marbella Mad Motion Mix] and "Lead Me (I'll Follow)" [Elevation Mix]. And there isn't much wrong with the rest of tracks, there just not that much different from the originals, just sort of stretched out. "Blessed" [Epiphonic Remix] and "A Song For You" [London Daydream Mix] are nice, but not at all danceable, and "For Your Love" [Gravity Moon Mix] is tranced out, and only saved by some funky vocal distortion from being skip worthy.
Rachael thanks guest artist Souljahz "for sharing your coolness with me" it's too bad they didn't share enough extra to fill the whole disc.

Bottom Line: Worth the dough, but not all that.
