Product Description

Twelve-year-old friends, Tia and Max, and the last golden monkey, Po, fight against Toran, an amoral gourmet who eats endangered species to extinction.

He's looking for a *very* final meal ...

“There will be garlic, white wine and a light cream sauce,” said Toran to the frightened beetles. He loomed over them, his long face shadowed and demonic.

“And there will be ... you.”

Evil gourmet Toran Hollergod has another almost-extinct species planned for his plate: The Blurting Beetles of Baloogo Loogo. With his trusty henchman, Hench, he's ready for dinner.

Only Super Monkey Group stand in the way.

Tia, Max and Po can stop him ... right? Sure they've got the help of techowiz Cornelius, but he's half a world away.

And Island Baloogo Loogo is no peaceful tropical paradise.

Featuring Exploding Cactus Corn, hungry Ligers, Red Goop, Sugar Slugs and Bolliverger's Old, a cheese so disgusting it can knock you out, saving a hundred beetles from the frying pan isn't going to be easy ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever humor for clever kids, June 24, 2011

The product description gives an accurate and amusing overview of the plot, so I'll skip the synopsis.

This is a great book for kids, and for grownups who like kids' books. It has action, adventure, mild peril, environmentally-friendly technology, stinky cheese, a beetle-eating villain, and a monkey - what's not to like? This book would be appropriate both for younger kids who are early readers (no inappropriate material) and for older reluctant readers (enthralling plot-line).

At ~15,000 words (maybe 100-150 pages), it's a full-length children's book. I'd estimate it to be about a 4th grade reading level. The author is Australian, so there are British English spellings (colour, metre, etc.). This book appears to have been professionally edited.

I got this as a freebie; it's worth paying for. There's also a sequel, The Humming Cows of Mount Bolliverger (Super Monkey Group).

5.0 out of 5 stars LOL funny!, October 19, 2011

I only got this title because it was free for my kindle and my (brilliant) 5 yo son wanted to read on my kindle. I grabbed something free and handed it over to him.

He read it outloud to me - and we BOTH cracked up!!

"ingredients:

...Persian Crinkled Mushrooms, Irish squeaking potatos"

We kept repeating that line in the Dr's office and he thought we were crazy. I'm sorry that I can't find a paper copy for him to carry around with him.

I can't wait for him to read me book 2!

4.0 out of 5 stars a good read to your kids kind of book, February 9, 2012
This review is from: The Blurting Beetles of Baloogo Loogo (Super Monkey Group) (Kindle Edition)
I wasn't sure if this book would be liked when I bought it. I decided to read it out loud to my seven year old (not that he could not read it himself) as some mommy and me time. He seemed to like it enough when we started the book and I knew he was listening and reading along as he would correct me when I miss spoke. As soon as we were done with the book he wanted me to look for more of these stories. I guess he LIKED it. That was good enough for me. I say take a chance on this one. It is goofy and fun with a Spy kids type of feeling to it.

More About the Author

Hurro peoples!

I've been a writer and editor since 2003 when I made my first professional sale adapting Pinocchio for Penguin Books. I was paid the grand total of $0.00 - woo hoo!

I then took on some other freelance writing work for which I earned more zero until I became an editor and writer for Funtastic Publishing in 2004. I then wrote *everything*.

Disney colouring books, storybooks, Pixar stuff, Warner Bros, Universal Studios, sticker books, educational series, non-fiction books, sales sheets, birthday invitations ...

It was great fun but there is a limit to how many Princess stories a man can write before he starts to lose it. Live happily ever after? Not this time, Princess.

So I dove into freelancing and worked all over the place. Kids flying British Airways and Qantas get activity/story books that I wrote to keep them entertained. Mimes being sent into war zones read comforting words from me. You may even find yourself gripped by some packaging text on a hairdryer.

I live in Melbourne, Australia and enjoy old school dance-offs.

cheers,
Mat
