surprising different perspective of the communist take over,

A good story which reminded me of the Loretta Young or Joan Crawford vehicles from the 40's. There is also some real growth of character, by several characters and you really get a feel for a nation making sweeping changes and how it affects the lives of its citizens.

It's quite hard to find a fine chinese movies these days, especially Hongkong movies with lots of blood and action. But this moving drama is really great movie. Great performances, and really touching. If you like a great drama movie, you have to check this out. You won't be dissapointed.
